This not only attracts public attention but also brings great economic value. Cultural industry is becoming a trend and is identified as an important component contributing to the country's growth.

Explosion of many memorable activities

The 2025 Vietnamese Tet film market has just witnessed a vibrant but equally fierce race when many films were released at the same time and all aimed at joining the hundred billion film club.

This year, many films have joined the race such as “The Four Guardians” by Tran Thanh, “The Billionaire Kiss” by Thu Trang, “Love by Mistake” by Quang Dung, “Den Am Hon” by YouTuber Hoang Nam. In addition to “Love by Mistake” leaving the theater with a modest box office revenue of more than 21 billion VND, the remaining three films all achieved impressive sales.

Of which, “The Four Guardians” has earned more than 330 billion VND, making it the highest-grossing Vietnamese film in early 2025 so far; “The Billionaire Kiss” has also earned more than 210 billion VND. Although it joined the Lunar New Year 2025 film race quite late, “The Ghost Lamp” still attracted attention when it reached the milestone of more than 100 billion VND.

Recently, the film “House of Ancestors” by Huynh Lap, officially released on February 21, also made a big splash when it quickly achieved impressive revenue, reaching the 200 billion VND mark, officially entering the top 10 best-selling Vietnamese films of all time. It can be seen that although it has only entered the third month of 2025, the excitement of the box office market shows an optimistic signal for a successful year for the Vietnamese film industry.

Looking back at 2024, according to statistics from Box Office Vietnam, the revenue of the Vietnamese theater market exceeded 4,600 billion VND, with Vietnamese films alone earning about 1,900 billion VND, accounting for more than 40% with 28 films shown in theaters. In addition, there are some films that do not have revenue statistics such as "Dao, Pho and Piano". Films that have made a big splash include "Mai" by Tran Thanh, which earned more than 551 billion VND, also the first Vietnamese film to have box office revenue exceeding 500 billion VND; "Lat mat 7: Mot giau uoc" by Ly Hai, which earned more than 482 billion VND...

Along with cinema, Vietnam's performance industry has also recorded excitement with many programs and concerts that have caused great resonance. Among them, the two programs "Anh trai say hi" and "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" have become the explosive epicenter of the Vietnamese performance industry in 2024, along with vibrant music playgrounds such as the Ho Chi Minh City International Music Festival HOZO 2024, the program "International Jazz 1 - Nha Trang 2024" ...

With the program "Anh trai say hi", the two nights of concert 3 (December 7, 2024) and concert 4 (December 9, 2024) at My Dinh National Stadium, Hanoi attracted 90,000 spectators, breaking the record set by the idol group BlackPink in Vietnam in July 2023 (more than 67,000 tickets).

Following “Anh trai say hi”, concert night 2 “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” took place on the evening of December 14, 2024 at Vinhomes Ocean Park 3 (Hung Yen) and was equally explosive, attracting about 30,000 spectators. Previously, concert night 1 “Anh trai vu ngan cong gai” held in Ho Chi Minh City also attracted about 20,000 spectators.

It is worth mentioning that concert ticket prices range from 500,000 - 10,000,000 VND depending on the class, showing the strong appeal of Vietnamese music programs and the revenue brought to the organizing unit is not small. Talking about concerts attracting hundreds of thousands of audiences, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that this shows that Vietnam's performing arts have great potential for development through specific products, playing an important role in promoting the development of the cultural industry and socio-economy.

From policy to practice

In addition to music nights and performances, theaters also play an important role in contributing to the colorful picture of performing arts. For example, in 2024, the revenue from performance activities, cooperation, and ticket sales of the Youth Theater will be about 8.5 billion VND; the Vietnam Circus Federation will be 14 billion VND; the Vietnam Puppetry Theater will be 16 billion VND; the Vietnam Contemporary Arts Theater will be 25 billion VND; the Vietnam Music and Dance Theater will have a revenue of 30 billion VND...

For localities, the cultural industry has also undergone a strong transformation from policy to practice. No longer just dry plans and strategies on paper, the cultural industry has truly integrated into practice and has been identified by localities as an important component contributing to socio-economic growth.

Mechanisms and policies related to promoting creativity continue to be improved. For example, in Ho Chi Minh City, currently, the whole city has more than 17,600 enterprises producing and trading in the cultural sector. The contribution of cultural industries to GRDP is increasing, demonstrating the position of the industry in the economic development of the city (GRDP in 2010 accounted for 3.77%, by 2019 it accounted for 3.88%, currently the growth rate has exceeded 5%).

Vice Chairwoman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said that the Resolution of the 11th Ho Chi Minh City Party Congress determined that "Developing cultural industry goes hand in hand with building and perfecting the cultural market; focusing on implementing the Project on Strategy for Developing Cultural Industries in Ho Chi Minh City for the period 2020 - 2030". The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee also issued the Project on Strategy for Developing Cultural Industries to 2030 in 8 areas: cinema, performing arts, fine arts, photography, exhibitions, advertising, cultural tourism and fashion.

“The city has proposed to add to the planning land funds to build film studios, fashion centers, performance centers, exhibitions, and training facilities specializing in cultural industries…” - Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Thuy said.

In Hanoi, implementing Resolution 09-NQ/TU dated February 22, 2022 of the City Party Committee
Hanoi on the development of cultural industry in the capital for the period 2021 - 2025, orientation to 2030, vision to 2045, recently, the development of cultural industry has been identified as the responsibility of the entire political system in the spirit of "investing in culture is investing in sustainable development".

The city has maximized its potential, strengths, and traditional cultural values bearing the identity of the thousand-year-old capital; promoted international integration, contributed to fostering and developing the cultural values of Thang Long - Hanoi, built elegant and civilized Hanoians, and turned Hanoi into a "Creative City"...

Over the past year, many cultural programs and creative activities of Hanoi have breathed new life into the cultural and spiritual life of the capital, attracting a large number of people and tourists to attend and enjoy.

Notably, the Hanoi Creative Design Festival 2024 with the theme "Creative Crossroads" attracted 300,000 visitors, more than 500 units, more than 1,000 creators, becoming a creative cultural event with profound community significance, strongly inspiring innovation, creativity, and sustainable development.

In particular, the festival touched many iconic cultural works of the capital such as Hanoi Children's Palace, Opera House, National History Museum and for the first time welcomed the public to visit heritages such as the Government Guest House and the University (19 Le Thanh Tong).

Or events such as Hanoi Food Festival 2024, Cultural Festival for Peace... also become unique cultural destinations, leaving a deep impression in the hearts of people and tourists.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung assessed that 2024 is considered a boom year for the performing arts sector, not only effectively serving political tasks but also making important contributions to the development of the cultural industry. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism also identified the performing arts sector as one of the key sectors, helping the industry grow; striving for cultural industries to contribute 8% of the country's GDP according to the Resolution of the National Assembly.

It is known that currently, the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam's Cultural Industries to 2030, with a vision to 2045, is also in the process of being developed, consulted, and finalized. The completion of institutions will help clear bottlenecks and create sustainable development.

Speaking at the conference on the implementation of the 2025 tasks of the culture, sports and tourism sector, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh also assessed that Vietnam's cultural industries continue to have remarkable developments, bringing economic efficiency, improving the spiritual life of the people, and promoting profound human values, rich cultural identity, and fine traditions of the nation to the majority of people in the country and international friends. The Prime Minister also requested the culture, sports and tourism sector to continue to replicate good models, good practices, and create movements and development trends like the two concerts "Anh trai say hi" and "Anh trai vu ngan cong gai" have done.

The content here is that units must mobilize resources, support, and create conditions for art troupes and private event organizing companies to participate in the research process, aiming to export culture, especially in art forms such as circus and puppetry.

Art programs when performed abroad must have a strong identity, with careful market calculations. At the same time, it is necessary to proactively cooperate with units to turn cultural products into tourism products, enhancing the experience for tourists.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung
