Accelerating Phase 2 of the project to Preserve, Restore and Renovate the System in Hue Citadel

Dai Cung Mon now only has its foundation left because it was destroyed in 1947. Thua Thien Hue province plans to spend more than 64 billion VND to restore this relic.

Recently, at the 20th Special Session of the Provincial People's Council, term VIII, 2021 - 2026, the People's Council of Thua Thien Hue province approved the investment policy for the Dai Cung Mon relic restoration project. This is an important project, of great historical and cultural value to the Forbidden City area in particular and the Complex of Hue Monuments in general.

Accordingly, the project will renovate and restore the Dai Cung Mon foundation with bricks, stone pillars, moisture-proof and termite-proof foundation, install termite-proof system, restore the foundation, stone steps, brick walls with mortar and traditional color.

Dai Cung Mon is the main gate to the Forbidden City, built in 1833 under the reign of King Minh Mang. By 1947, this relic was destroyed.

The main part of the Great Palace Gate will be restored with a wooden frame structure. The roof, plank walls, three-piece panels, and doors will use group II wood. All wooden components will be protected against moisture and termites. Other components will be carved with patterns and gilded with gold.

The roof is covered with yellow glazed tiles. The eaves are restored, the gables are inlaid with porcelain and decorative patterns and restored with enamel, the top of the ridge is attached with enamel figures. The parts adjacent to the two roofs of the corridors on both sides are treated with waterproofing, the rafters, rafters and roof tiles of the two corridors are restored to connect to the gable wall of the Great Palace Gate.

The project also includes the restoration of the front yard, the backyard, the railing system and the screen behind the Great Palace Gate. At the same time, the construction lighting system, interior and exterior art lighting, drainage system, fire protection system and camera system will be renovated.

The People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue province proposed a total investment of 64.6 billion VND for the above project from the provincial budget. After examination, the Economic - Budget Committee of the Provincial People's Council believes that the investment in restoring the Dai Cung Mon relic is necessary and will contribute to promoting the value of the special national historical and cultural relic, the world cultural heritage of the Hue Imperial City.
