Clean from home to the street
Instead of being confined to Sundays, the "Green Sunday" activities at Xuan Loc Kindergarten in Phu Loc District are flexibly implemented by teachers on Saturdays and other weekdays. Besides sweeping up trash and weeding, the teachers also plant trees and flowers, creating green, clean, and beautiful corners in the school. Teacher Mai Thi Mong Lanh shared: "Seeing the school as our home, the teachers all work together for our common home. Through these 'Green Sunday' activities, the teachers also tell the students stories about environmental protection to help them gradually develop awareness and habits in maintaining cleanliness in the school and the environment..."
Not only in agencies, units, and schools, but also in the localities of Phu Loc district, the awareness of people in participating in environmental protection activities has been greatly raised. Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu (Loc Tri commune, Phu Loc district) shared that environmental sanitation is carried out very regularly. Every Sunday, people come out to sweep and clean the village roads and alleys. This habit is maintained regularly, so the roads are cleaner from their homes to the streets.
Along with people in lowland communes, ethnic minority people in Phu Loc district also actively participate in the "Green Sunday" activities. Ms. Le Thi Pi Ta, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Huong Son commune, Phu Loc district, shared that 100% of households in the commune are from the Co Tu ethnic group, and they actively participate in "Green Sunday" activities. In 2019, after the Provincial People's Committee (now the City People's Committee) launched the "Green Sunday" project, the locality held meetings with organizations and villages, widely informing the people. Since then, the people have wholeheartedly and voluntarily participated in environmental sanitation activities.
“In Huong Son commune, the youth union and villages have so far planted 6,500 bougainvillea trees. In addition, the 'exchange trash for trees' activity has also resulted in planting 450 apricot blossom trees along village roads,” said Ms. Le Thi Pi Ta.
Ensure long-term implementation
According to the leaders of Phu Loc District People's Committee, in order for this activity to truly bring long-term effectiveness, in addition to launching and organizing simultaneous campaigns to implement the "Green Sunday" project, the District People's Committee also regularly directs the People's Committees of communes and towns to strengthen environmental sanitation work and organize effective weekly activities of the "Green Sunday" project in public areas, roads, residential areas, markets, tourist areas, industrial zones, ponds, lakes, rivers, streams, and coastlines... in order to completely eliminate and prevent the recurrence of garbage hotspots in the area. For communes and towns with National Highway 1A passing through them, and the road to the Chan May - Lang Co Economic Zone, the district focuses on addressing accumulated garbage and scattered waste along the roads to ensure the landscape and environmental hygiene.
Implementing the Green Sunday campaign also ensures the mobilization of all forces, including Party members, officials, workers, union members, association members, students, laborers, and especially local residents, to participate. Each week, localities register their campaign schedules and then implement them according to plan.
| Concerned about waste collection points, the district has assigned responsibility to communes and towns, requiring that waste be placed in garbage boats and that the boats not be overfilled, piled up, or scattered around the boat placement area. The People's Committees of communes and towns will be held responsible if waste is scattered and causes environmental pollution in the area where the garbage boats are placed before the waste is transported for processing. |
