Currently, garbage trucks cannot reach some residential areas in Dong Tra neighborhood (Ban Thach ward). To ensure environmental hygiene, the Farmers' Association of the neighborhood has proactively mobilized and guided 42 households to sort waste at source and committed to not littering indiscriminately.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Tuyet, Chairwoman of the Farmers' Association of Ban Thach Ward, shared that sorting waste at source has significantly changed daily habits and raised people's sense of responsibility towards the living environment. Many farmers use organic fertilizer from waste to develop their garden economy effectively.
In Tam Ky ward, implementing the campaign "Building a family with 5 no's and 3 clean's" and the movement "Tam Ky women - Beautiful gestures, civilized living," the Women's Union of the ward is actively guiding waste sorting at source and methods for recycling plastic waste. Recently, 150 mesh bags were distributed to female members in the ward to change their shopping habits and reduce the use of nylon packaging and single-use plastic products.
To achieve the goal of building a plastic-free Cham Island, the Women's Union of Tan Hiep commune has visited markets and trading points to guide business owners in reducing the use of plastic products and replacing them with environmentally friendly alternatives. In the villages, recycling collection teams and green living women's groups of the women's branches are also operating effectively.
Ms. Le Thi My Vuong, Chairwoman of the Women's Union of Tan Hiep commune, said that women members are becoming active communicators in implementing the "Say No to Plastic Waste" movement launched by the locality. Through this, women members affirm their role and sense of responsibility in environmental protection and climate change response.

“Green Citizens – Healthy Cities” is one of four international cooperation projects in the environmental field being effectively implemented in the city. The project is implemented by the Center for Living and Learning for the Environment and Community (Live & Learn) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Environment in the Hoi An and Tam Ky (formerly) areas.
Ms. Le Thi Trang, coordinator of the "Green Citizens - Healthy Cities" project, said that over the past two years, the project has attracted 27 schools, reaching more than 5,600 students. Among them, the "1,000 Paper Bags" project by students from Nguyen Duy Hieu Secondary School (Hoi An Ward) and Chu Van An Secondary School (Hoi An Tay Ward) excellently won the Sustainable Project Award at the 3rd International Youth Festival on Climate Change in 2025.
“Throughout the project, we have empowered, enhanced the capacity of, and created spaces for young people to directly participate in environmental protection initiatives. This helps them develop the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to become ‘green citizens’; and at the same time spread the message of green living in the community,” Ms. Trang shared.
Recently, the "Green Citizens - Healthy City" project, in collaboration with Ban Thach and Huong Tra wards, implemented three "Listening to Birdsong" stations. This technological initiative creates green public spaces, helping people connect with nature in the heart of the city, thereby effectively spreading environmental awareness.
