Encourage students to read books
After the school informed the rules of the Reading Culture Ambassador contest, Tran Ngo Xuan Quynh (Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted - Dong Hai) had days of living to the fullest in her love of reading. There, each word in the work "The Sorrow of War" by writer Bao Ninh brought her deep feelings about the contributions of countless revolutionary soldiers who devoted and sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland. From the perspective of the younger generation, Xuan Quynh herself feels more grateful and appreciates the peaceful and beautiful life of the beloved Vietnam. “The book has nurtured my love for my homeland and my fellow countrymen, helping me understand that today's blue sky of peace has come at the cost of many things. The 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest has given me and my friends the opportunity to share our love for our “friends” books, and I believe that as long as there are contests like this, there will still be friends who are passionate about reading,” said Xuan Quynh.

As for Le Nguyen Uyen Nghi (Thai Nguyen Secondary School, Nha Trang Ward), she chose the book "Vietnamese Blue Berets - Sowers of Peace" by two authors Nguyen Sy Cong and Nam Kha. The work is about the journey of a young military medic preparing to go to South Sudan to carry out a United Nations peacekeeping mission. It was in that faraway African country that he discovered the most wonderful things when people are connected by love, as well as the profound meaning of the word "peace". “I feel very lucky to have chosen a book that suits me to participate in this Reading Culture Ambassador contest. The characters in the book have really inspired me. In the near future, I will try to study and practice well so that when I grow up, I can do many useful things for the country. For me, the Reading Culture Ambassador contest is a source of motivation that encourages me to love reading and learning about books” - Uyen Nghi shared.
Launched from the end of March to June 20, the 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest received more than 15,000 entries from students from 169 primary, secondary and high schools in the province. Thereby, the Organizing Committee of the contest judged, selected and awarded 58 first, second, third and consolation prizes, along with special prizes for contestants with excellent entries. In addition, the Organizing Committee also selected 8 quality entries to submit to the final round of the 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. In general, the Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in the province this year not only met the quantity requirements but also the overall quality of the entries was remarkable. Many entries demonstrated the enthusiasm and responsibility of the contestants in each word, with careful citation of sources and neat illustrations. In particular, the entries reflect the purity and innocence of primary school age; the thoughts and creativity of secondary school students; and the profound personal perspectives of high school age. Some entries are videos with reasonable presentation ideas, in which the authors invested time and effort... All share the same desire to spread the awareness of reading to the community.
To make the contest more successful
According to the leader of the Provincial Library, this year's Reading Culture Ambassador contest has met its purpose and requirements, but there are still many things that need to be overcome to make the next contest more attractive and of better quality. First of all, there are many articles that are done carelessly, in response, and copy each other from form to content. Many entries have very basic spelling and grammar mistakes; lack of information about the publication; do not clearly understand the requirements of the question, leading to digressions, confusion between characters and works, confusion between works and authors. In some articles, candidates assigned Vietnamese names to characters in foreign works, did not cite the source of information cited in the essay, cut and pasted from many sources with many fonts, font sizes, font colors, and did not align the text. Some entries expressed their feelings about the work, but were copied from many pages on the Internet and transformed into their own. Most of the video entries did not meet the quality requirements. “To promote the achieved results as a premise for the contest to be more successful in the following years, schools and teachers need to carefully study the rules, guide students to do the test correctly, and correct basic errors before submitting their entries. It is necessary to strengthen communication, innovate the form of organization, and combine the application of information technology to spread the contest widely. Along with that, the coordination between the Education and Training sector and the Culture sector needs to be closer so that the contest becomes a sustainable brand in the reading movement in schools,” said Dinh Xuan Huong, Director of the Provincial Library.
The 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest is an activity for students at all levels in the province. Through it, it encourages sharing and spreading the love of reading; forming reading habits and skills for the younger generation; arousing passion, promoting the reading movement, developing a reading culture in the community... Each time the contest is held, the reading movement in schools is promoted more strongly and affirmed as a useful knowledge playground for students.
