Lance Reddick died suddenly on Friday morning “of natural causes,” his publicist Mia Hansen said.
Reddick, an actor whose charismatic looks often landed him roles that required intensity and charisma, began his career in the 1990s, in television series like “New York Undercover” and “The West Wing."

As a teenager growing up in Baltimore, Reddick had intentions of becoming a musician. He took up acting as a means of supporting his young family and in hopes of laying the foundation for a music career.
Reddick began taking roles in regional theater and at age 29, he applied to—and was accepted—at Yale University to study drama, graduating from the prestigious school.
In New York, Reddick first auditioned for “Wire” creator David Simon for “The Corner,” an HBO miniseries that debuted two years before Simon’s “The Wire.”
After starring in “The Wire” and receiving critical acclaim, Reddick has appeared in the television series “Lost,” the FOX sci-fi series “Fringe,” Amazon’s “Bosch,” and more recently Netflix’s version of “Resident Evil.”
In addition to the “John Wick” films, the 60-year-old actor has appeared in a number of blockbusters, including “One Night in Miami,” “Godzilla vs. Kong,” and the upcoming remake of “White Men Can’t Jump.” Reddick also voices Commander Zavala in Bungie’s Destiny and Destiny 2 video games.
Before his death, Reddick had just wrapped filming on the fourth “John Wick” film, which hits theaters next weekend. “We are deeply saddened and heartbroken by the loss of our beloved friend and colleague Lance Reddick,” Chad Stahelski, director of “John Wick: Chapter Four,” and Reddick’s co-star Keanu Reeves, said in a joint statement.
“Lance was a consummate professional and a pleasure to work with. Our love and prayers go out to his wife Stephanie, his children, his family and friends. We dedicate the film to him. He will be greatly missed,” the two Hollywood giants said.
