These days, many flower-growing households in Xuan Son village (Toan Luu commune) are busy preparing the land and planting chrysanthemums for Tet. "Starting" this year's crop has many existing difficulties when two storms No. 5 and No. 10 continuously hit within 1 month, causing 100% of people's greenhouses to be severely damaged. However, to ensure the Tet flower season, people have proactively overcome the damage and quickly stabilized production.

Ms. Duong Thi Kim (Xuan Son village, Toan Luu commune) shared: “My family has 800 m2 of flower growing area, including 500 m2 of greenhouse. Currently, the greenhouse area is being repaired, so we focus on planting 300 pots of crystal chrysanthemums with a total of more than 10,000 seedlings on an outdoor area of 300 m2 ”.
According to Ms. Kim, crystal chrysanthemums have a longer growing period, about 4 months from the time of sowing, so early planting is to ensure the season, helping the flowers grow well and have quality in time for the Lunar New Year. It is expected that after about 2-3 weeks, Ms. Kim will continue to sow about 40,000 plants in the greenhouse with short-term chrysanthemum varieties such as: raspberry chrysanthemums, diamond white chrysanthemums, Taiwanese yellow chrysanthemums... Currently, the greenhouse area is being focused on soil treatment, fertilization, and covering with tarpaulin to avoid the impact of the weather.

Not far away, Ms. Truong Thi Ha's family (Xuan Son village, Toan Luu commune) is also busy planting 200 pots of crystal chrysanthemums. Currently, the price of chrysanthemum seeds ranges from 300 - 350 VND/plant, relatively stable compared to last year, helping people feel secure in reproducing.
“With an area of 1,500 m2 , I have sown 1/3 of the area at this time, and expect to complete it in the next 2-3 weeks. After deducting expenses, my family earns 50-60 million VND for each Tet chrysanthemum crop. Therefore, although the storm has significantly affected the greenhouse system, we are focusing on overcoming it and quickly producing to meet the season,” said Ms. Ha.

According to records, most of the chrysanthemums planted at this time are crystal chrysanthemums, which have a longer growing period. For short-term chrysanthemum varieties, the people of Xuan Son flower village will plant them all around September 15-16 of the lunar calendar.
Mr. Duong Cong Hoa - Head of Xuan Son village said: "Our village has 57 households growing flowers with about 60 greenhouses. Storms No. 5 and No. 10 made landfall, causing 100% of greenhouses to be damaged, causing severe damage. Although it takes a long time to repair the damage, thanks to many years of experience in growing flowers, people have made careful calculations to both repair the infrastructure system and ensure timely planting."

According to statistics from the People's Committee of Toan Luu commune, there are 3.5 hectares of land specializing in producing flowers for the Tet market, most of which are concentrated in Xuan Son village. At this time, many households have started to plant chrysanthemums for Tet, while also repairing damage to greenhouses caused by storm No. 10.
“Although this year's crop faces many difficulties, people are focusing on taking care of their main crops, promising to bring high economic efficiency during the upcoming Lunar New Year. The local government has also sent specialized staff to directly guide people in handling the environment after the storm, supporting fertilizers, and providing technical guidance for re-production. Hopefully, the weather will be favorable, contributing to a bumper flower season, bringing a stable source of income for people in the area,” said Mr. Nguyen Thai Vu, an expert of the Economic Department, Toan Luu Commune People's Committee.
