Wildlife protection is being implemented comprehensively by functional forces in Lang Son province, from combating and handling violations to rescue, raising awareness, and conservation. Given the continued potential risks posed by illegal hunting, transporting, and trading of wild animals, the locality continues to strengthen measures to conserve biodiversity and natural ecosystems.

According to statistics, the province currently has approximately 409 animal species belonging to 88 families and 24 orders living in natural forest ecosystems. This is a valuable biological resource and simultaneously poses an urgent need for management, protection, and conservation.

Fight vigorously against violations.

One of the notable recent cases involved the illegal possession of 272 turtles in Ban Chu A village, Khuat Xa commune. On May 11, 2026, a joint force comprising the Forest Protection Department, the Provincial Police, the Khuat Xa Commune Police, and the People's Procuracy of Region 5 inspected the case and discovered serious violations of regulations on the protection of endangered and rare animals. Three days later, the Provincial Police Investigation Agency issued a decision to initiate criminal proceedings; on May 20, they further prosecuted two suspects for investigation in accordance with the law.

Among the confiscated items were many rare turtle species such as the big-headed turtle, Bua-re box turtle, four-eyed turtle, sand turtle, and yellow-fronted box turtle. All the turtles have been handed over to the Turtle Rescue Center of Cuc Phuong National Park for rescue, care, and conservation.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Hung, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Lang Son province, said that this is one of the serious wildlife violations discovered in the area recently. This result shows the effectiveness of coordination between forest rangers, police, and local authorities in monitoring, detecting, and combating violations of laws on wildlife protection.

According to Mr. Hung, detecting and strictly handling the case not only contributes to preventing violations but also has a deterrent effect, raising public awareness of law compliance in protecting endangered and rare animal species.

Maintain tight control over key areas.

Alongside combating and handling violations, functional units continue to strengthen local management to prevent violations early and from afar.

Currently, the province is monitoring 204 wildlife breeding facilities. Special-use forests such as Huu Lien, Mau Son, and Bac Son, along with border communes, have been identified as key areas at risk of illegal hunting, transportation, and trading of wild animals. National highways 1A, 1B, 4A, and 4B, border gate areas, and border trails are also under regular control.

Authorities are monitoring not only on the ground but also on online platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Shopee, Lazada, and numerous online groups to promptly detect illegal wildlife trafficking.

In May, authorities conducted eight inspections, detecting and processing six violations. The violations mainly involved illegal breeding of wild animals, advertising for the sale of wild animals, and using electric shock devices for fishing.

Earlier in April, authorities discovered and dealt with a case of illegal wildlife breeding involving 270 yellow-bellied bluebirds, along with several other violations related to advertising and trading in wildlife and the illegal use of electric shock devices for fishing.

Since the beginning of the year, the units have conducted 11 inspections, detected 9 violations, and organized 211 forest patrols. Confiscated items include 270 yellow-bellied bluebirds, 30 kg of water snakes, 1 muntjac, and 1 electric shock device. In May alone, the forest rangers conducted 133 forest patrols.

In addition, the Lang Son Forest Protection Department proactively provides lists of endangered, rare, and precious wild animal species, lists of invasive alien species, and identification documents for some animal species to serve management, public awareness campaigns, and improve the ability to identify violations.

Let's work together to conserve biodiversity.

Protecting wildlife is not only the responsibility of law enforcement agencies but also requires the participation of the community.

In May, the entire province organized 116 awareness campaigns with over 3,348 participants. These campaigns were conducted through various methods such as conferences, mobile outreach, village meetings, and online platforms. In addition, nearly 450 households signed pledges to protect forests and wildlife.

Earlier, at Thanh Pagoda, relevant authorities coordinated to guide people on how to properly release animals into the wild, in accordance with the law and to protect the local ecosystem. The activity attracted more than 400 participants, contributing to raising community awareness about biodiversity conservation.

In addition to awareness campaigns, wildlife rescue efforts are also being maintained. Many slow lorises handed over by the public have been received by the forest rangers, the necessary procedures have been completed, and they have been released back into their natural environment.

According to Mr. Hoang Van Chieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province, protecting wildlife is an important task to preserve biodiversity, balance the ecosystem, and protect the local natural resources.

In the coming period, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment will continue to closely coordinate with functional forces to strengthen inspection and control in key areas, especially border areas, border gates and transportation routes where violations are likely to occur.

According to Mr. Chieu, along with the involvement of relevant authorities, raising community awareness is of particular importance. Every citizen needs to actively participate in protecting wildlife, refrain from illegal hunting, trading, and transporting, and promptly report any violations to the authorities.

From combating and handling violations to raising awareness, rescuing, and conserving wildlife, the work of protecting wildlife in Lang Son is being implemented comprehensively. This is an important foundation for preserving biodiversity, protecting natural ecosystems, and safeguarding valuable resources for future generations.
