Lao Cai: Raising awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste at accommodation establishments and tourist attractions

On the morning of May 29, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lao Cai province held a conference to promote the protection of tourism resources and raise awareness of the harmful effects of plastic waste at accommodation establishments and tourist areas by 2025.

The conference takes place over 2 days (May 29-30).

At the conference, lecturers from the Institute of Strategy and Policy on Agriculture and Environment presented the following topics: International experience and current status of plastic waste management and reduction in the tourism sector in Vietnam; Guidelines for plastic waste management and reduction in accommodation establishments and tourist areas and destinations.

At the same time, conference delegates were shared with communication methods and instructed tourists to use reusable items to protect the environment.

The conference also conducted a survey, assessment and discussion on the impact of using plastic waste in the reception, accommodation, restaurant and kitchen departments at hotels... Thereby, it aims to change the habit of using products that are harmful to the environment; improve the capacity and experience in waste management for staff and managers at accommodation establishments; promote the development of green tourism and sustainable tourism.
