In the Vietnamese market, when consumers still tend to choose technology devices based on price, the emergence and gradual popularity of AI laptops is showing a new shift in product selection.
Price range from 18 - 25 million
In the current market, laptops with integrated AI technology are considered trendy technology items that students are interested in during the 2025 school year. In addition to familiar factors such as brand, durability, after-sales policy, traditional configurations such as CPU or RAM, many young customers are increasingly interested in factors related to long-term experience, including AI processing capabilities, mobility and battery life.
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoang (technology expert and lecturer at Hanoi University of Science and Technology): "Today's students need a laptop powerful enough to run local AI applications such as live translation, voice recognition, data analysis and even building machine learning models. Therefore, choosing a device with a CPU integrated with AI processing capabilities will be a smart, economical and sustainable investment direction."
Minh Anh, a third-year student at Ho Chi Minh City National University, also shared: "Since switching to an AI-powered laptop, I find studying much easier. The machine automatically helps me translate documents, quickly synthesize research content, and even prepare presentations."
According to the survey, with an average price range of 18 - 25 million VND, AI laptops currently include the following popular lines:
Surface Laptop and Surface Pro lines. Of which, Surface Laptop 7 has a basic version with a 13.8-inch screen, SOC Snapdragon X Plus, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, priced at about 24.5 million VND.
Surface Pro 11 (launched in 2024) and Surface Pro 12 inch also use Snapdragon X Plus chip, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD, priced under 25 million. Surface Pro line is a hybrid computer, prioritizing mobility over Surface Laptop.

Asus Vivobook S OLED (Intel Core Ultra Chip), this is a typical representative of AI laptops running the new generation Intel Core Ultra chip. The advantages of the Intel Core Ultra CPU integrated with NPU help process AI quickly, sharp OLED screen, battery capacity enough for all day use. Intel chip stands out with good compatibility with Windows software. The price of Asus Vivobook S OLED ranges from 18-25 million VND depending on the configuration, with 14-16 inch screen options, Intel Core Ultra 5 or 7 CPU, and different levels of RAM and SSD.

Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 5 (Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite) has outstanding battery life, effective AI on the latest ARM platform, thin and light, and supports convenient 5G connection. Commenting on this product, student Hoang Lam, National Economics University shared: "I bought IdeaPad 3 months ago and am very satisfied. The device handles well the AI-related tasks that I often use. However, there are still some applications on Windows that are not really compatible."
Gradually popular but still limited
Although AI laptops have been present in the Vietnamese market since 2024, according to technology experts, their popularity is still limited. Mr. Eric Lee - Director of Southeast Asia of ASUS analyzed that currently, 30-40% of laptops sold in Vietnam still use old-generation CPUs, while the rate of machines equipped with new-generation chips is only 2-5%. This is proof that most Vietnamese consumers are still not really ready to spend money on new technologies, mainly due to the price factor.
"Choosing an older CPU actually only reduces the laptop price by about 10%, but can reduce performance, long-term usability, and compatibility with new AI technologies," said Eric Lee.
According to IDC Asia- Pacific statistics, about 65% of users are willing to pay more to own an AI-enabled laptop, of which students account for a large proportion. However, according to actual observations in Vietnam, users' choice of AI laptop models is mostly due to overall performance and long-term usability, rather than because of the immediate need to use AI features.
In addition, expert Nguyen Minh Hoang commented that not everything that AI laptops can do, regular laptops cannot. Most of the current AI tasks are provided in other forms on the machine, meaning that you do not need a powerful laptop to be able to use AI effectively.
“Currently, there are not many AI features that require internal processing, especially for learning. Copilot mainly focuses on some features such as creative graphics and translation. Support for third-party software is still very limited. However, as an inevitable trend, software will be increasingly optimized with AI to improve performance. AI Laptops are born to welcome the trend.”
Based on the above facts, experts believe that choosing a laptop for students in the 2025 school year is no longer simply a product that is sufficient but requires a longer-term view. Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoang emphasized: "Consider AI laptops a long-term investment instead of a short-term item."
It can be seen that although it cannot be confirmed that AI is the deciding factor when young customers choose to buy, the level of interest in this product line is gradually increasing, especially among GenZ customers - a group of people who are sensitive to new technology and love to explore and experience.
Criteria for choosing AI laptop
Dr. Nguyen Minh Hoang, a technology expert, emphasized the importance of choosing a CPU capable of processing AI. There are three prominent CPU lines that students should prioritize:
- Intel Core Ultra: Outstanding with superior AI performance, energy saving, suitable for students in engineering and technology majors.
- AMD Ryzen AI: Specialized in AI, accelerated local processing, impressive battery life, optimized for economic and social sectors.
- Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite: Powerful in AI capabilities and long-lasting battery, ideal for those who are constantly on the go or need constant connectivity.
Meanwhile, according to Microsoft, a laptop that can meet the Copilot+ PC standards for Windows laptops with powerful AI capabilities must include: Modern CPU and GPU processors compatible with AI standards; Neural Processing Unit (NPU) capable of handling local AI tasks such as real-time translation and imaging; Integrating Windows Copilot as a system AI assistant.
