Can Gio Whale Festival 2025 takes place from October 5-7

VHO - Ho Chi Minh City organizes the Can Gio Whale Festival 2025 from October 5-7 with ceremonies, festivals, and many unique cultural, sports, and tourism activities in the coastal area.

Can Gio Whale Festival is the only traditional festival of Can Gio fishermen that is maintained annually.

The People's Committee of Can Gio commune in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City will organize the Can Gio Whale Festival 2025 from October 5 to 7 (August 14, 15, 16, At Ty year) at many locations in Can Gio area.

This is a national intangible cultural heritage, the only traditional festival of Can Gio fishermen maintained annually to pay tribute to ancestors, pray for a peaceful sea season, and at the same time spread the cultural values ​​typical of the coastal region.

Regarding the festival, Vice Chairwoman of Can Gio Commune People's Committee Vo Thi Diem Phuong said that this year the Ceremony includes solemn rituals such as: visiting the Rung Sac Martyrs Cemetery and the Rung Sac Heroic Martyrs Temple; the Flag Raising Ceremony; the Fishermen's Celebration Ceremony; the Ancestral Worship Ceremony; the Whale Welcome Ceremony at sea and welcoming the Whale Welcome group to the Whale Temple; and opening and closing art programs, etc.

The Festival includes a series of 20 cultural - sports - tourism activities: Green Marathon, exhibition of images and artifacts about 112 years of formation and development of the festival, trade fair and OCOP products, seafood food festival, folk games, painting contest, lantern making, children's Mid-Autumn Festival.

Besides, there are also many art performances such as traditional opera, amateur music, water puppetry, street circus, lion - unicorn - dragon performances, martial arts music, paragliding performances, light flycam, artistic fireworks...

This year, the Organizing Committee has temporarily suspended 6 activities, including: flower lantern boats (only keep releasing flower lanterns on the sea), cross-country races for students, dragon boat racing, beach stilt racing (only keep street stilt performances), beach athletics and triathlon.

The representative of Can Gio Commune People's Committee affirmed that maintaining and promoting the Nghinh Ong Festival not only contributes to preserving the national intangible cultural heritage, but also creates a highlight to attract tourists, promote the local image, and harmoniously combine spiritual elements, marine culture with modern sports and art activities.
