Rituals in the Thak Con Festival of the Khmer people

The festival expresses the desire for peace, happiness, praying for favorable weather, bountiful harvests, and a prosperous and happy life. At the same time, it also expresses the tradition of remembering the source of water, the spirit of community solidarity, and the unique cultural characteristics of the Khmer people in the South in general and in Soc Trang province in particular.

The Thak Con Festival takes place for 5 days according to the Khmer calendar, from early morning on the 13th day of the 13th month of Pi-sak until the 17th day of the 17th month of Pi-sak (corresponding to the 13th day of the 3rd lunar month to the 17th day of the 3rd lunar month), including rituals such as: alms-giving ritual, flag-raising ritual, worshiping singing ritual and cultural and artistic activities, farewell ritual, ash-scattering ritual... in which, the Coconut Offering ritual makes the Thak Con Festival have its own unique characteristics with spectacular scenes rarely seen in any festival.
