Groundbreaking ceremony of the No. 2 runway project and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport

(gialai.gov.vn) - On the morning of August 19, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the investment project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport. This is one of 8 projects of Gia Lai province that were started and inaugurated simultaneously with 250 projects nationwide, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).

Attending the ceremony, on the Central leadership side, there were comrades: Nguyen Manh Hung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Science and Technology . On the Gia Lai provincial leadership side, there were comrades: Ho Quoc Dung - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee. Also attending were former provincial leaders, comrades in the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Council and leaders of relevant departments, branches, sectors and units.

Phu Cat Airport plays a very important role in creating momentum to promote socio-economic development, ensuring national security and defense for the South Central Coast, Central Highlands region in general and Gia Lai province in particular. In recent times, Gia Lai province has always closely coordinated with the Ministry of Construction , the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and airlines to increase flights to meet the needs of travel, freight transport, promote trade, commerce - tourism, attract investment to contribute to promoting local socio-economic development. In order to effectively promote the advantages of location, importance and available potential, Phu Cat Airport needs to be prioritized for synchronous, modern and sustainable investment, suitable for its role as a domestic airport with international routes; as one of the main airports in the national defense system, an important military base in the defense system to protect the Fatherland; contributing to creating the premise, promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security of Gia Lai province and the key economic region of the Central region, in accordance with the Phu Cat Airport Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050.

The investment project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport is a level I aviation project, with a total investment of more than 3,245.10 billion VND (of which the central budget is 1,500 billion VND, the rest is local budget). After the project is completed, it can ensure the reception of Code C aircraft such as A320, A321 and equivalent (can receive Code E aircraft when needed). The construction time is expected to be about 10 months.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang emphasized: The project to invest in the construction of runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport is one of the large-scale aviation traffic projects, which is important in promoting socio -economic development, ensuring national security and defense for the South Central and Central Highlands regions in general and Gia Lai province in particular. In order for the project to be implemented on schedule, he requested the Project Investor to closely coordinate with Division 372, Regiment 925, Regiment 940, Phu Cat Airport, localities and related units in the project implementation process to promptly resolve problems; focus on directing and speeding up the progress of compensation, site clearance and handing over clean land to the construction contractor to carry out construction according to the required schedule. Focus on project management, inspection and supervision of strict implementation of management processes and regulations on quality, progress and construction volume; resolutely handle units violating quality and progress; determined to ensure the goals: Fast progress - good quality - labor safety, compliance with legal regulations.

Consulting units (design consultants, supervision consultants) must uphold the spirit of professional responsibility in consulting work for the project. Fully perform the functions, tasks, and responsibilities of supervising the author, supervising the quality, volume, and progress of the construction contractor in accordance with regulations. Construction contractors must properly and fully implement the commitments in the contract signed with the Investor, especially ensuring financial capacity, machinery, equipment, construction materials, technical staff and skilled workers to implement the construction of the project to meet the set quality and progress. Develop detailed construction progress plans and charts to ensure direction and operation. Regularly check and remind the implementation of labor protection, labor safety, environmental protection, fire prevention and fighting at the construction site and measures to improve working conditions of workers.

The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested the People's Committee of Phu Cat Commune, the People's Committee of An Nhon Ward, and the People's Committee of An Nhon Bac Ward to actively coordinate with the investor and relevant units to promptly organize a Council meeting to approve the plan and compensation plan for site clearance for implementation. At the same time, strengthen propaganda and mobilization work to encourage people in the project area to pay attention, support, share and strictly comply with the State's regulations to soon complete the project's compensation and site clearance work. Relevant departments, branches and sectors proactively coordinate to support and create favorable conditions for the investor and construction contractor to implement the project in accordance with the functions and tasks under their management.
