Le Quang Liem secures a spot in the 2026 Esports World Cup.

VHO - Vietnam's number one chess player, Le Quang Liem, continues to assert his class by officially securing a ticket to the Esports World Cup 2026 after an impressive performance at the DreamHack Atlanta 2026 online chess tournament held in the US from May 15 to 17.

In a tournament featuring 36 top players, Le Quang Liem made an impressive start, winning two consecutive matches with the same 2-0 scoreline in the group stage.

The Vietnamese representative then defeated French Grandmaster Jules Moussard with a score of 1.5-0.5 to secure a place among the top 8 players.

Entering the knockout round, Le Quang Liem continued to demonstrate his prowess against many high-level opponents. However, in the decisive match in the loser's bracket, he lost to Serbian player Alexey Sarana with a score of 0.5-1.5, thus missing the opportunity to compete for the championship.

Nevertheless, finishing third overall was enough for the Vietnamese player to secure one of the four spots in the 2026 Esports World Cup, along with a prize of $5,000.

DreamHack Atlanta 2026 is organized as a computer-based rapid chess tournament, with each match consisting of two games, and a winner can be decided by an Armageddon game if the match ends in a draw.

This is considered one of the highest-quality qualifying tournaments in the world of e-chess today.

According to the plan, the Esports World Cup 2026 will take place in Saudi Arabia in August with 24 official sports, of which chess is receiving a lot of attention.

For now, the chess player born in 1991 will continue preparing for the ASEAN Esports Chess Cup 2026, which will take place in Thailand next June.
