At exactly 5:50 a.m., the honor guard of 37 soldiers entered Ba Dinh Square. With the background music of the marching song “Marching under the flag”, the soldiers advanced to the flagpole area to prepare for the solemn rituals. Then, three soldiers carrying a tray containing the national flag and black ribbon stepped onto the podium, preparing for the flag-raising ceremony.
According to regulations, the flag that flies at half mast during a national funeral is a flag with a black ribbon measuring 1/10 of the flag's width and length. The flag can only be flown to 2/3 of the mast with a black ribbon tied to keep the flag from flying.

The funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong will be held at the National Funeral Home, 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi , from 7:00 a.m. on May 24 to 7:00 a.m. on May 25.
The memorial service will be held at 7:00 a.m. on May 25; the burial will be at 3:00 p.m. the same day at the hometown cemetery, Pho Khanh commune, Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai.
At the same time, at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at Hall T50, Quang Ngai Provincial Military Command, No. 142 Le Trung Dinh, Quang Ngai City, the funeral and memorial service for former President Tran Duc Luong also took place.
During the two-day state funeral of former President Tran Duc Luong (May 24-25), agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and no entertainment activities will be organized.
