Billiards match schedule on October 9: Many Vietnamese 'tigers' are taking to the field, what about Tran Quyet Chien?

Today (October 9), many of Vietnam's top billiard players will compete at the Antwerp Billiards World Cup taking place in Belgium.

On October 9, the fourth (final) qualifying round of the Antwerp 2025 Billiards World Cup will take place. This round promises to be exciting, with the appearance of many strong players. The nature of the competition will become even more tense, as this is the key round for players to qualify for the main round (32 players) of the World Cup taking place in Belgium.

5 Vietnamese players compete for tickets to the main round

In the fourth qualifying round, 5 Vietnamese players will take the field, including: Bao Phuong Vinh, Chiem Hong Thai, Dao Van Ly, Nguyen Van Tai and Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu. These are all top players of Vietnamese 3-cushion carom, winning many awards in domestic competitions. In particular, Phuong Vinh is the 2023 World Champion. Hong Thai won a bronze medal in a World Cup billiards tournament. Thanh Tu is the reigning Vietnamese national champion in 3-cushion carom and also won a bronze medal in the World Cup billiards.

Accordingly, Bao Phuong Vinh is in group A with David Pennor (Sweden) and Joseba Escribano (Spain). Chiem Hong Thai is in group B with Tom Lowe (Germany) and Daniel Sainz Pardo (Spain). Phuong Vinh and Hong Thai will play the opening match at 6 p.m. and the decisive match at 9 p.m.

Bao Phuong Vinh is the only Vietnamese player to win the world championship up to now.

Dao Van Ly is in group E with Gokan Salman (Türkiye) and Dimitrios Seleventas (Greece). Van Ly will play at 4:30 p.m. against the Greek player. Depending on the result of the opening match, Van Ly will play the second match at 7:30 p.m. or 10:30 p.m.

Nguyen Van Tai is in group J with two Turkish players, Turgay Orak and Omer Karakurt. Nguyen Tran Thanh Tu is in group L with Jeffrey Jorrissen (Netherlands) and Pedro Gonzalez (Colombia). Van Tai and Thanh Tu will play at the same time: 7:30 p.m. and 10:30 p.m.

The fourth qualifying round has 36 players competing, divided into 12 groups (3 players each), playing a round robin to calculate points and rank. Accordingly, the 12 group winners and the 3 best runners-up will advance to the main round.

Tran Quyet Chien is ready

Vietnam's two World Cup billiards champions, Tran Quyet Chien and Tran Thanh Luc, are now in Belgium. Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc are ranked high in the world rankings, so they were given special permission to appear from the main round (32 players).

Accordingly, Quyet Chien and Thanh Luc will compete on October 10. Quyet Chien is in the challenging group C with two World Cup billiards champions, Martin Horn (Germany) and Roland Forthomme (Belgium). Thanh Luc is in group F with Tolgahan Kiraz (Turkey).
