This is also the last friendly match between Vietnam and Kenya before the two teams go to Thailand to participate in the 2025 Women's Volleyball World Championship taking place at the end of August.
Initially, the Vietnamese women's team was scheduled to play against Kenya on the evening of August 16, but because the African team arrived in Vietnam late, the match was postponed to today, August 19.
In a recent friendly match, both the Vietnamese and Kenyan women's teams lost to Spain.
Currently, Kenya is ranked 23rd, just 1 place behind the Vietnamese women's team.
Kenya is currently the highest ranked women's volleyball team in Africa. They have won 10 African Championships and 5 African Games gold medals.
This team has participated in the Olympics 4 times (most recently in 2024) and 6 times in the World Championship, the best result being 13th place (1994, 1998).
The African team is also a group G opponent with the Vietnamese women's team at the upcoming World Cup.
Meanwhile, the Vietnamese women's team just won the second round of SEA V.League 2025.
This championship will be a great motivation for coach Nguyen Tuan Kiet and his team to confidently look forward to friendly matches, especially the World Cup at the end of August in Thailand as well as the 33rd SEA Games at the end of the year.
In terms of personnel, the Vietnamese women's team still retains the same squad that competed in SEA V.League 2025.
After losing to Spain, Thanh Thuy and her teammates are determined to get a good result against Kenya to create motivation to go to Thailand to compete in the world tournament.
The friendly match between the Vietnam women's team and Kenya will be broadcast live on VTVCab's digital platforms, ON Sports, VTV Prime and ON Plus applications.
