If more than ten years ago, the agricultural economy of the people in Phu Nhuan commune was mainly the production of food crops to serve the needs of family life, today, in the fields and hills in this locality, tea plants are mainly grown, creating a vast green area of tens and hundreds of hectares.
The family of Mrs. Ban Thi Van, in Nhuan 1 village, Phu Nhuan commune, has more than 1 hectare of tea plantation, each year producing 7-8 tons of fresh tea, bringing in a stable income of more than 50 million VND. Thanks to that, the family's economy is more stable, and their material and spiritual life is much better than before.
Mrs. Ban Thi Van shared: “Nowadays, almost every household in the village grows tea, small households have half a hectare, large households have several hectares. Growing tea brings a stable source of income, and the output is also very favorable. Once the harvest is finished, people come to buy it, so people are very assured and do not have to worry about anything. Just focus on taking good care of it and developing it for high productivity.”
People in Phu Nhuan commune also apply technical processes to produce clean and safe tea according to the instructions of local agricultural extension officers, thanks to which the local clean tea brand is increasingly spreading in the market.
Along with that, there is the attention and support of local Party committees and authorities, regularly directing technical departments to the area to support, train and improve techniques, skills in planting and caring for tea trees in the direction of using organic fertilizers, minimizing inorganic fertilizers and spraying chemical pesticides to prevent pests and diseases, ensuring that tea trees grow and develop well. At the same time, instructing people to prevent fungal diseases of tea trees after pruning, and using fertilizers to supplement nutrients for tea trees. Thanks to that, the productivity and output of tea in Phu Nhuan commune are increasingly improved.
Tea trees have become a key crop contributing to economic development and new rural construction in Phu Nhuan commune, Lao Cai province.
To link tea cultivation production according to a unified technical process, currently tea-producing households in Phu Nhuan commune have also established the "Organic Clean Tea Growing and Care Association" so that people can grasp information, access in-depth training courses on organic growing and care techniques, and apply more systematic science and technology to production.
Ms. Pham Thi Dan, a member of the Association for organic tea growing and care in Nhuan 1 village, said: "By joining the Association, we expect to receive support and mutual assistance in economic development from the tea tree model in the direction of production linkage, which is the most effective way to ensure consistent quality, reduce input costs and together find stable consumption markets, bringing better income to the family."
Up to now, in the whole Phu Nhuan commune, there are more than 177 hectares of tea, including Lai 1, Lai 2 and Bat Tien tea varieties. Phu Nhuan Commune People's Committee has identified tea as one of the key crops with value, providing stable and regular products, ensuring income for people, playing an important role in the economic development movement to build new rural areas in the locality.
