Linking with farmers producing OCOP eggs

A brand of chicken eggs and quail eggs that builds 3-star OCOP products of Don Duong district has just been recognized, bringing great joy to farmers. This is the success of a link between businesses and farmers.

• INVESTING ENTERPRISES - CARE FOR FARMERS

Mr. Vu Ngoc Quoc Duy, a farmer in Pro Kinh Te village, Quang Lap commune, is taking care of a flock of quails that lay eggs. Mr. Duy said that this is a quail farm built on his family's land, but he only raises them on contract, the enterprise supplies quail breeds, bran, medicine as well as technical advice, farmers only need to process care and harvest. "My family is raising them on contract for Nguyen Ba Clean Egg Facility in the same Quang Lap commune. Nguyen Ba Facility invests in everything for farmers, my family only needs to take care, the enterprise will collect 100% of the quail eggs. Raising them on contract for the enterprise has the advantage that farmers do not need to invest much capital, are paid based on egg productivity and have additional income from quail manure," Mr. Duy informed.

According to Mr. Duy, after 3 weeks of bringing back the quail breed, farmers raise them for another 3 weeks before they start laying eggs. After 5 months, the quail reaches its highest laying rate, up to over 95%, then gradually decreases and after 12-14 months, the quail batch will be eliminated to replace the new batch. “The price of quail eggs actually goes up and down, sometimes just breaking even. In return, my family's quail farm collects a huge amount of manure, both composted for use in the family garden and supplied to surrounding households. In a month, the farm can collect 60 million VND from quail manure, which is a very stable source of income for the family,” Mr. Duy informed.

After 4 years of cooperation with Nguyen Ba facility under the model of investment enterprise - processing farmer, Mr. Duy is considering linking with the enterprise in the direction of self-investing in seeds, feed, medicine and care, the enterprise will provide technical support and simultaneously consume the products. According to Mr. Duy, with four years of experience, he is confident that he will achieve high productivity. Some households that are cooperating with Nguyen Ba facility have switched from processing farming to linking - consuming products. This form brings higher income to farmers. Currently, Mr. Duy has two quail farms. In the near future, he will open another quail farm, linking with Nguyen Ba egg facility to produce eggs.

• OCOP CLEAN EGGS

Mr. Pham Tin, owner of Nguyen Ba clean egg facility, Quang Lap commune, Don Duong district, is a local farmer. Previously, he worked as a driver, often driving to transport goods including eggs. Realizing that eggs are a potential product and knowing some information about output, he boldly opened a chicken and quail farm to collect eggs at home. "Quail eggs and chicken eggs are very familiar foods in family meals. My family, if only producing eggs internally, can only supply on a small scale. Realizing the market demand as well as finding an output, I thought about investing in surrounding farmers to expand the scale of raising chickens and quails for eggs," Mr. Tin assessed. Chickens and quails raised for eggs in the Quang Lap area are very suitable due to the stable climate and little change in temperature. However, Mr. Tin also consults and guides farmers on farming techniques very carefully, helping farmers to be proactive in taking care of chickens and quails.

Currently, Nguyen Ba facility is cooperating with 6 quail farms and 5 chicken farms, collecting 300 chicken egg trees (90 thousand eggs) and 400 thousand quail eggs per day. “Quang Lap farmers are familiar with growing la-ghim, so when I encouraged them to raise quail and chickens for eggs, many households were hesitant. Therefore, I implemented a model of enterprises investing and farmers taking care. But gradually, people realized that the linkage model in which farmers invest and enterprises purchase products is more profitable. Currently, 2 households have switched to self-investment and Nguyen Ba will purchase eggs,” Mr. Tin provided.

According to Mr. Tin, from 2020 to now, the close connection between Nguyen Ba facility and livestock households has brought a stable source of eggs so that the facility can expand its distribution system. With the support of Quang Lap commune, Nguyen Ba facility has built OCOP egg products to distribute eggs to clean stores and supermarkets. "Connecting with farmers and ensuring profits for farmers is a sustainable direction for agricultural products to achieve stable output, helping businesses to build a reasonable distribution plan. As a son of Quang Lap land, I am very proud to have built a close connection with farmers and neighbors around my own family," Mr. Pham Tin shared.

Mr. Hoang Ngoc Bao Son - Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Quang Lap commune said that Nguyen Ba clean chicken eggs are a new OCOP product of Don Duong. Established in 2020, right at the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Nguyen Ba has built a stable connection with over 10 farming households in the region, ensuring good income for farmers. The facility is expanding more farms linked with businesses to increase the ability to supply clean eggs to the market, bringing an effective farming direction for farmers.
