Serbian Interior Minister Bratislav Gasic said at least eight people were killed and 13 injured in a shooting in the village of Dubona in the Mladenova region around 11 p.m. on May 4. The gunman opened fire on a group of people, but the motive is unclear.
The suspect was identified as Uros B., 21, and fled the scene. Police have cordoned off the area where they suspect the suspect is hiding.
All special police units, including anti-terrorist forces, helicopters from the cities of Belgrade and Smederevo took part in the search for the suspect.
The massacre occurred just a day after Serbian public opinion was shocked by the case of a 13-year-old boy in Belgrade who used two pistols belonging to his father to attack his school. The shooting left 9 people, including security guards and 8 students, dead.
Mass shootings are rare in Serbia, but experts have warned about the number of weapons left over from the country's conflicts in the 1990s.
