National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man meets with Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary

At a meeting with Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary, National Assembly President Tran Thanh Man hoped that Cambodia and Thailand would make efforts to negotiate, put aside differences, and peacefully resolve disputes.

According to VNA special correspondent, on the morning of July 29 local time, in Geneva, Switzerland, on the occasion of attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met with Cambodian National Assembly Chairman Khuon Sudary.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man said that the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand at the meeting organized by Malaysia, ASEAN Chair, on July 28 was a positive step forward, contributing to bringing the situation back to normal , avoiding losses for the people, promoting ASEAN's mediation role, as well as strengthening unity and solidarity within ASEAN; he hoped that Cambodia and Thailand would make efforts to negotiate, put aside differences, and peacefully resolve disputes, for the benefit of both countries and the common interests of ASEAN.

On this occasion, the National Assembly Chairman also conveyed the greetings of General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to King Norodom Sihamoni, Senate President Hun Sen, and Prime Minister Hun Manet.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man congratulated Cambodia on its recent achievements and expressed his belief that Cambodia will continue to achieve even greater successes. Expressing his delight at the new developments in the relationship between the two Parties, two countries, and two National Assemblies, the National Assembly Chairman said that cooperation in the fields of defense, security, investment, and trade has been increasingly strengthened with a total two-way trade turnover in the first 6 months of 2025 reaching 6.4 billion USD; people-to-people exchange has been promoted with many meaningful activities.

The National Assembly Chairman affirmed that the Party, State and people of Vietnam attach special importance to developing the good neighborly relationship, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term sustainability between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The National Assembly Chairman suggested that Cambodia pay attention to creating favorable conditions for the life of the Vietnamese community living in the Tonle Sap area, as well as promptly coordinate in transferring and receiving citizens back when Cambodia conducts a crackdown on crime hotspots.

Cambodian National Assembly President Khuon Sudary highly appreciated and congratulated Vietnam on the great achievements recently made under the leadership of General Secretary To Lam and the leaders of the Vietnamese Party and State in streamlining the administrative apparatus and merging localities; saying that the relationship between Cambodia and Vietnam has a long history of going through many hardships together since gaining independence.

Cambodia will never forget the great sacrifices and wholehearted assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers, the Party, State and people of Vietnam in liberating Cambodia from the Pol Pot genocidal regime in 1979, helping the Cambodian people revive and develop prosperously as they do today; emphasizing that generations of Cambodian leaders and people are willing to forever preserve the precious common assets between the two nations.

President of the Cambodian National Assembly Khuon Sudary also conveyed the greetings of the Cambodian leaders to President of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man and the Vietnamese leaders; thanked the Vietnamese National Assembly for building a spacious and modern National Assembly House for Cambodia.
To promote the achieved results, the two sides agreed to strongly consolidate political trust, maintain delegation exchanges and contacts through various channels; strengthen connections between young leaders of the two countries, and coordinate to widely disseminate the tradition of solidarity and close ties between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Regarding parliamentary cooperation, the two sides agreed to maintain contact between the Friendship Parliamentarians' Group, young parliamentarians, and female parliamentarians of the two countries to exchange information and experience in the legislative field, especially in building institutions and the legal system.

Promoting the role of the two countries' National Assemblies in promoting bilateral relations, the two sides agreed to coordinate in supervising and encouraging ministries, branches, localities and enterprises to effectively implement signed treaties, agreements and arrangements./.
