Hue estimated damage of over 3,272 billion VND due to heavy floods

On November 8, the People's Committee of Hue City informed that the exceptionally heavy rain from October 25 to November 3 caused severe damage to people, infrastructure and affected all sectors with 15 deaths, estimated total economic damage of over VND3,272 billion.

Regarding education , since the beginning of the storm and flood season, the Department of Education and Training has had 4 periods of school closure for students across the city to prevent storms and floods; students in low-lying areas have been out of school for over 10 days. According to initial statistics, the total damage to the education sector is about 18 billion VND, mainly concentrated on first floor desks and chairs, collapsed fences, fire prevention systems, student books, and personal belongings of boarding students.

Regarding health , 47 medical facilities were flooded, including: 35 medical stations and 12 hospitals and medical centers under the Department of Health; total damage was 7 billion VND.

Regarding the preserved relic sites, the lake embankment at Tu Duc Tomb has collapsed about 10m; the wooden column system at Dai Cung Mon Corridor is submerged in water, threatening to affect the life of the structure; a section of the Imperial Citadel wall about 15m long on Dang Thai Than Street has collapsed.

Regarding agriculture, more than 600 hectares of corn and various vegetables were flooded, 255 hectares of various fruit trees were flooded; 326 tons of rice were flooded; 70.6 hectares of fields were eroded and filled with silt... 6 buffaloes, 50 cows, 35 goats, 149 pigs, and 13,393 poultry were killed or swept away.

Regarding irrigation, the coastline through Hoa Duan residential group, Thuan An ward has suffered severe erosion with a length of 1km. The coastline has eroded 50÷70m deep into the mainland, affecting essential infrastructure works, tourism services and the risk of opening a new sea gate; the coastline through Vinh Loc commune is 2.0km long, the coastline has eroded 10÷30m deep into the mainland, affecting provincial road 21 and essential infrastructure works. In addition, along the city's coastline, there are many eroded sections with a total erosion length of about 5.5km.

Floodwaters have caused landslides on the banks of the Huong River, Bo River, O Lau River and other rivers with a total length of more than 10 km, more than 30 km of canals, 30 temporary dams, and inland dykes have been washed away, dozens of pumping stations have been flooded, and landslides have damaged them.

Regarding traffic routes, damages on the routes, remedial work by management and maintenance contractors and proposed remedial plans to ensure traffic safety for people and vehicles traveling on provincial roads with a budget of 134 billion VND,

In addition, most businesses in the Industrial Parks have proactively given workers days off on October 28, 29, and 30 to ensure their safety. Some companies have had to temporarily suspend production.

Currently, Hue city is receiving support of more than 382 billion VND, of which the central budget supports 250 billion VND to meet urgent needs and stabilize people's lives after floods.

Currently, some localities, organizations and donors have sent sponsorship letters and are completing procedures to transfer support funds. The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City and the Department of Finance continue to update and review.

Accordingly, from October 25 to November 3, due to the influence of increased cold air combined with disturbances in the high-altitude East wind zone, very heavy rain occurred in Hue city, with rainfall measured in mountainous areas ranging from 1,200-2,300mm, and higher in some places such as Bach Ma peak 5,500mm, Khe Tre 2,818mm, and Huong Son 2,645mm.

Heavy rains caused three major floods on rivers. Widespread flooding in 32/40 communes and wards lasted for many days.
