Locals said up to 100 people, including children, were buried under mud in the disaster. Local authorities fear the victims may have died.
Hundreds of people are feared dead after a massive landslide hit a remote village in northern Papua New Guinea early on Thursday, a resident said. The village is in Enga province, about 600 km (370 miles) north of Papua New Guinea's capital Port Moresby. Papua New Guinea Prime Minister James Marape said in a statement that he had not yet received a full report but that authorities were working to respond to the disaster.
