The fragrant pig is a rare native pig breed originating from some mountainous areas in the North. This specialty pig breed has high resistance and few diseases. Although it is small in size and does not weigh more than 50kg when fully grown, fragrant pig meat has high economic value, with a market price of 250,000 - 300,000 VND/kg.

Currently, the domestic pig breed - a native pig breed of Vietnam - is being raised and expanded by the Diep Lam Agricultural Cooperative, Loi Thuan Commune, Ben Cau District ( Tay Ninh Province).

Diep Lam Agricultural Cooperative was established in 2021 with 8 members. The production area includes 12 hectares of agricultural land, including 3,000 coconut trees planted in plots, interspersed with water ditches.

Previously, the cooperative experimented with raising chickens, ducks, goats, etc. and is currently developing a herd of domestic pigs. The cooperative's goal is to provide and distribute this pig breed to the locality, while also taking advantage of free time in the countryside to develop livestock farming and increase income.

Mr. Le Van Ro - Director of the Cooperative said that 2 years ago, during a chance visit, he saw that the breed of pig originated from Cao Bang province. He researched, learned from experience and then imported it for experimental breeding.

Realizing that this breed of pig could develop in Tay Ninh, he began to expand it. From a few initial pairs of breeding pigs, the cooperative now has more than 100 pigs.

Mr. Ro shared: "The cooperative develops clean livestock farming, the main food is green vegetables, cooked rice mixed with rice bran, especially not using industrial bran or growth stimulants.

The pig farms are carefully treated to ensure environmental hygiene. The raising time is about 6 months, twice as long as industrial raising, the weight of the pig is from 40-50kg/pig. The pork is fragrant and crispy, especially this breed of pig is called "fragrant pig" because the meat has a light, very characteristic aroma.

Diep Lam Agricultural Cooperative, Loi Thuan Commune, Ben Cau District (Tay Ninh Province) successfully raises specialty pigs, combining ecotourism.

The cooperative aims to develop livestock farming combined with ecotourism. Therefore, the area is divided into 2 areas: Area B for livestock farming; Area A for food and beverage services, rest, eco-tourism area...

In addition, the cooperative also raises fish for recreational fishing; raises black apple snails to sell to the market and make a specialty dish for visitors. To enter the eco-tourism area, visitors can travel by road or experience it by water.

Combining farming, animal husbandry and eco-tourism to "take short-term to support long-term", from there, the cooperative gradually invested and improved facilities to serve tourists inside and outside the district.

Mr. Nguyen Trung Hieu - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Loi Thuan Commune, Ben Cau District (Tay Ninh Province) said that the model of raising domestic pigs at Diep Lam Agricultural Cooperative is developing well, the herd is increasing rapidly, and the breeding pigs and commercial pigs are being sold to the market in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Commune Farmers' Association has coordinated with specialized departments to provide technical guidance on livestock farming to cooperative members. As for the eco-tourism area, although newly established, it has potential for future development.
