According to Ngo Minh Hieu, co-founder of the Vietnam Anti-Cyber Fraud Project (Chongluadao.vn), recent reports from victims indicate that a phishing campaign originating from the Signal application is developing in Vietnam.

Accordingly, a clear trend is that many scammers operating from "scam camps" in Southeast Asia are shifting from Telegram to Signal as their primary scam communication platform.
Common scam methods include: fake financial investment platforms, romance scams, and impersonation; sending links containing malware to deceive people...
These individuals even resort to impersonating government agencies to gain victims' trust, or posing as bank or financial company employees to request personal information or money transfers.
"In fact, many victims in Vietnam have fallen victim to scams through the Signal app," Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu informed.

According to experts, criminals are exploiting this secure messaging app for scams because Signal is a highly encrypted application that helps conceal their activities. At the same time, they can easily approach victims through this social network to build trust before carrying out their fraudulent activities.
Cybersecurity experts at Chongluadao.vn advise people to be more vigilant, not just with one app, but across all social media platforms, messaging apps, and free calling apps. They should slow down, carefully verify identities, scrutinize investment opportunities, and absolutely refrain from sharing sensitive information online.
Do not share sensitive information such as OTP codes, passwords, or financial information.
Always verify any link, account, or organization before taking any action.
If you notice any signs of fraud, absolutely do not continue the transaction or dialogue.
