ST25 rice continues to bring good profits to farmers.

ST25 rice has won the "crown" three times at the World's Best Rice Competition in 2019, 2023, and 2025. The glory brought by ST25 rice has helped many farmers cultivating this variety in Can Tho City achieve high profits, especially during periods of fluctuating rice prices.

For decades, Mr. Lam Soc Kha, residing in Soc Dong hamlet, Tan Thanh commune, Can Tho city, has cultivated rice with various varieties, from common rice to fragrant and specialty rice. However, for the past three years, he has chosen to cultivate the ST25 rice variety.

According to Mr. Kha, this specialty rice always sells for 1,200-2,000 VND/kg more than other rice varieties. “In the early winter-spring crop of 2025-2026, while many other rice varieties sold for only 5,400-6,500 VND/kg after harvest, ST25 rice sold for 7,800 VND/kg, so I earned a profit of 20-25 million VND/ha; the late winter-spring crop, about 20 days from now, will also yield a similar profit. Growing ST25 rice isn't too worrying because there are always companies and businesses that guarantee the output, ensuring farmers have good profits,” Mr. Soc Kha confided.

Mr. Thach Hong Thai, also from Soc Dong hamlet, shared his thoughts: “In the early winter-spring crop of 2024, the price of ST25 rice reached 11,500 VND/kg, bringing in a profit of over 110 million VND/2 hectares, which made farmers very happy. Currently, the price of ST25 rice is no longer as high as before, but it is still much higher than other rice varieties. With 3 years of experience growing ST25 rice, I find that this rice is suitable for the natural soil, has a high yield averaging 6-7.5 tons/ha, and is less susceptible to diseases.”

To reduce costs, Mr. Thai uses a row planter during sowing, which helps reduce the amount of seeds to 90-100 kg/ha; by applying VietGAP rice cultivation procedures, his rice fields also significantly reduce fertilizer and pesticide costs. The late winter-spring rice crop, about 20 days away from harvest, is estimated to yield 6.5 tons/ha, with a guaranteed purchase price of 7,800 VND/kg. After deducting expenses, Mr. Thai expects a profit of over 25 million VND/ha.

The Hung Loi Agricultural Cooperative in Dai Ngai commune, Can Tho city, has been cultivating the ST25 rice variety for many years, bringing a comfortable life to its members.

Mr. Truong Van Hung, Director of Hung Loi Agricultural Cooperative, Dai Ngai Commune, Can Tho City, shared: “Since 2020, the Cooperative has mobilized all members to cultivate ST25 rice on its fields, covering an area of over 620 hectares. Initially, members were worried about market demand when cultivating on such a large area. However, upon hearing that ST25 rice had won the award for the best rice in the world , everyone confidently cultivated it. To improve productivity and quality, the Cooperative applies smart farming methods to the fields, such as mechanizing land preparation, sowing, and spraying pesticides using drones, applying the “1 must, 5 reductions” and “3 reductions, 3 increases” rice cultivation processes, and cultivating rice organically. Thanks to this, we have successfully met the requirements of the purchasing and export company. Currently, most members of the Cooperative enjoy a comfortable life.”

For the 2025-2026 winter-spring rice crop in Can Tho City, 312,615 hectares were planted, reaching 107% of the plan. The main varieties planted include: ST25 (16%), ST24 (2%), RVT (9%), Dai Thom 8 (41%), and other varieties such as OM5451, OM18, OM4218… (31%). ST25, ST24, and RVT rice varieties are mainly sown in the communes of Thanh Thoi An, Tai Van, Dai Ngai, Tan Thanh, and the wards of Vi Thanh and My Xuyen…

The Tan Hung Phu Agricultural Cooperative in Tan Thanh commune, despite being established only three years ago, has chosen the ST25 rice variety for cultivation from the very beginning. According to Mr. Ho Thanh Liem, Director of the Cooperative, with an area of over 500 hectares and two rice crops per year, the ST25 rice production supplied to the market is quite large. In particular, the Cooperative also has a business partner that guarantees the purchase of its output each season, with the purchase price being at least 2,000 VND/kg higher than the market price for other rice varieties.
