- Promoting the noble tradition of "When drinking water, remember its source", in recent years, the armed forces of Lang Son province, with the core being the Provincial Military Command and the Border Guard Command (formerly the Provincial Border Guard Command), have always been at the forefront of gratitude work. With specific and practical actions, officers and soldiers of the provincial armed forces have made an important contribution to taking better care of families with meritorious services and people with revolutionary contributions in the area.
One of the outstanding activities of the gratitude work of the provincial armed forces from 2024 to present, officers and soldiers of the Provincial Military Command have supported the "Repaying gratitude" Fund with a total contribution of over 740 million VND; reviewed applications for disability assessment, enjoyed war invalids' benefits and paid for 10 cases; awarded "Fatherland's gratitude" certificates and presented gifts to 7 martyrs' relatives with a total amount of 80 million VND; supported the construction of 5 Gratitude Houses for policy families with a total amount of 400 million VND; upgraded the place of worship for 3 soldiers of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army with a total amount of 240 million VND... thereby, contributing to helping many wounded soldiers, sick soldiers, and martyrs' families in difficult circumstances stabilize their lives.
Mr. Hoang Van Dung, Ban Don village, Ba Son commune, the son of a martyr, shared: My father participated in the war against the US and died in 1967 at the Viet Tri front, Phu Tho province. Due to economic difficulties, my family had to live in a temporary house, unable to afford to build or repair. In 2024, the family received 80 million VND from the Provincial Military Command to build a new house. My family is very grateful for the attention of the Provincial Military Command.
As the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee 515 on searching, collecting and identifying martyrs' remains, the Provincial Military Command has done a good job of advising and coordinating with departments, branches and organizations in reviewing and verifying information on martyrs' graves, organizing the search and excavation of martyrs' remains. As a result, from 2021 to present, 31 grave information has been verified; 30 martyrs' remains (including 9 martyrs' remains with information, 21 martyrs' remains with unknown information) have been exhumed and handed over for burial in martyrs' cemeteries, ensuring proper procedures.
Colonel Nguyen Cong Khue, Political Commissar of the Provincial Military Command, said: For the Provincial Military Command, the work of gratitude is not only a responsibility but also an order from the heart of every officer and soldier. We always try to ensure that all policies for people with meritorious services are fully and promptly implemented, without any cases being overlooked or disadvantaged. We pay special attention to supporting the construction of gratitude houses and improving living conditions for disadvantaged families, because that is the foundation for them to stabilize their lives and rise up. At the same time, the work of searching for, collecting and identifying the remains of martyrs is always a top priority, expressing the deepest gratitude of today's generation to those who heroically sacrificed. We understand that each remains found, each information verified is a part of history completed, a pain soothed, bringing peace to the families and relatives of martyrs. The "Gratitude" fund voluntarily contributed by officers and soldiers is the clearest proof of our sense of responsibility and gratitude.
As for the Border Guard, due to the specific nature of its tasks in the border area, this force has also carried out many specific and practical gratitude activities. The work of "Repaying gratitude" is regularly given attention by Party committees and commanders at all levels. From 2024 to present, the Border Guard has coordinated with Party committees, authorities, and organizations of border communes to build and repair 7 comrades' houses; inaugurated a memorial stele for heroic martyrs at the 820 high point managed by Po Ma Border Guard Station, with a budget of over 1 billion 500 million VND; organized medical examinations, treatment, and medicine distribution for over 2,400 meritorious people and policy families, with a total value of nearly 330 million VND...
In addition, the border posts have also proactively carried out many activities such as visiting, giving gifts, encouraging families with meritorious services, building gratitude houses, etc. On the occasion of the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day this year, the posts have proactively implemented specific activities and tasks such as: coordinating with local youth unions to support working days to help families with meritorious services, people with meritorious services to the revolution to harvest crops, repair houses, build civil works, repair memorial houses for heroic martyrs, etc.
For example , Tan Thanh Border Guard Station, towards the 78th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2025), the unit coordinated to visit and encourage families with meritorious services, people with revolutionary contributions and organized a program to examine, consult, and provide medicine for people with meritorious services and families with meritorious services in the area, with a total value of activities of over 15 million VND.
It can be affirmed that the gratitude work of the provincial armed forces has been making an important contribution to the effective implementation of social security policies in the area, is a vivid proof of the tradition and morality of "When drinking water, remember its source" of the Vietnamese people and will continue to be strongly promoted in the following years.
