Lucid Motors has a better outlook for 2025, especially after Peter Rawlinson was sidelined, deliveries improved and new deals were signed, raising hopes that the struggling electric carmaker could be on the verge of profitability in the not-too-distant future. The company’s second model, the Gravity, has received rave reviews for its features and performance, and is expected to become a popular three-row SUV. While the Gravity shares most of its specs with the Air sedan, they differ in one key area: charging capacity.
The Air Sedan is no slouch, but its 800-volt architecture limits charging speeds to the power of its onboard inverter, which is just 50 kW. The Gravity SUV, on the other hand, has a tiered battery that allows it to charge at both 400-volt and 800-volt stations without sacrificing power. That’s why the news that the Lucid Air will be able to charge at a Tesla Supercharger starting in August may not be so significant. At 50 kW, a Lucid Air only adds about 200 miles of range per hour of charging. The ability to use a Supercharger isn’t really useful unless there are no 800-volt charging stations available. To use a Tesla station, Air owners must bring along a NACS-to-CCS converter, which Lucid sells for $220, which is inconvenient.
While Supercharger access was announced with the 2026 update, all Air models, regardless of model year, will benefit. For the 2026 model year, Lucid also significantly upgraded the Air lineup. Most importantly, it increased the Air Touring’s EPA range to 431 miles (694 km) thanks to a higher-energy-density battery pack. This gives the Air Touring about 21 miles (34 km) more range than the Tesla Model S AWD. Meanwhile, the Air Pure still holds an EPA-rated 420 miles, 676 km, while the Air Grand Touring remains the longest-range electric vehicle in the US at 512 miles, 824 km. Lucid has also revised the standard equipment on all Air models, now featuring a new Gravity air conditioning compressor that delivers better cooling and quieter operation. A mobile charging cable is also included free of charge with all models.
For the base Air Pure, those upgrades add $1,000 to the price, bringing it to $70,900. Even with the battery upgrade, the Air Touring only increases the price by the same amount, to $79,900. The higher-end Grand Touring version is pushed up to $114,900 (up $4,000), mainly due to the addition of standard 20-way power seats with massage and ventilation functions.
