“Obviously the European teams are better organised because of the club structure and the players they have,” Luis Suarez said at a press conference in Miami on Friday (June 13), “But we should also note that they come here after a long season with many tournaments. So they will be a little tired.
Atletico Madrid, PSG and especially Man City, Real, Juventus, Inter and Bayern are very strong teams. But I believe there will be some unexpected results. Who knows, Inter Miami and other MLS teams will bring that, although I know it is not easy to face big teams."
Suarez and Messi, along with Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, are veteran players who have played in several Club World Cups with Barca before joining Inter Miami.
In 2024, they won the Supporters' Shield, a trophy awarded to the club with the most points in an MLS season. Miami also set a record for points that season, then were eliminated in the first round of the MLS Cup playoffs.
In May, Busquets admitted "we are not at the level to compete at the FIFA Club World Cup", a view also shared by coach Javier Mascherano, especially during a period of winning just one of eight matches in April and May.
When asked about this, Suarez said: “Competition is in our DNA, but football is not about winning every game. Maybe things will not go as planned but we will try to play as well as possible, compete in every game to get the best result."

At the FIFA Club World Cup, Inter Miami will face Al Ahly in the opening match at Hard Rock Stadium on Saturday night, before facing Porto and Palmeiras in Group A.
