The medicinal plant growing area is concentrated in Lung Phinh commune.

Lung Phinh is a highland commune with a rugged terrain and a cool climate year-round, situated at an altitude of over 1,000 meters above sea level. These unique natural conditions provide an advantage for the locality in developing high - value medicinal plants such as Angelica sinensis, Platycodon grandiflorus, artichoke, and other temperate medicinal herbs. Recognizing this potential, in recent years, the commune's Party committee and government have focused on directing the transformation of crop structure, encouraging people to boldly introduce medicinal plants into production, and gradually forming concentrated cultivation areas linked to sustainable poverty reduction.

The family of Mr. Giàng Seo Dìn, from Lả Dì Thàng village, has built a spacious new house on an area of 200 square meters , worth nearly 800 million VND, something he never dared to dream of before.

Mr. Giàng Seo Dìn shared: “Having a house like this today is thanks to the attention of the Party, the State, and the local government, which have brought medicinal plants to the people to cultivate. Combined with planting fruit trees, raising buffaloes for breeding, and reforestation over the years, my family has achieved a fairly stable economy.”

According to Mr. Din, since 2019, with government support in providing seeds and technical training, his family has boldly planted two main medicinal plants, Angelica sinensis and Platycodon grandiflorus, on a total area of nearly 1 hectare. Thanks to their suitability to the local soil and climate conditions and proper technical care, these medicinal plants bring in approximately 200 million VND annually for the family. Along with income from temperate fruit trees, buffalo breeding, and forestry, his family's economy has become increasingly stable, allowing them to accumulate capital for reinvestment in production, build a solid house, and gradually improve their quality of life.

Not only the Giàng Seo Dìn family, but many households in Lùng Phình commune are now boldly converting unproductive agricultural land to medicinal plant cultivation. To date, the entire commune has developed 171 hectares of medicinal plants, completing 100% of the development plan target assigned for 2025. After six years of cultivation in the commune, the leaders of Lùng Phình commune believe that Angelica sinensis and Platycodon grandiflorus are gradually becoming key crops, bringing high economic value and contributing to increased income for the people.

In reality, income from medicinal plants not only helps many households escape poverty but also motivates people to change their production mindset, from self-sufficiency to commercial production. Along with this, people are increasingly focusing on applying scientific and technical advancements, organizing cultivation in a safe and sustainable manner, and gradually linking production with market demand.

However, alongside the achievements, the people of Lung Phinh also hope to continue receiving support from the State and businesses in linking consumption and stabilizing product output, thereby feeling secure in expanding the cultivated area, increasing its value, and becoming wealthy from medicinal plants.

Discussing the results of poverty reduction in the area, Mr. Ha Duc Thanh - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Lung Phinh commune, said: “In previous years, Lung Phinh was a commune with a very high poverty rate. Two years ago, the poverty rate in the commune was over 38%. However, after reviewing and reassessing according to the multidimensional poverty standard, the poverty rate has decreased to 26%, and the near-poverty rate is 18.39%. This result acknowledges the important contribution of effective economic development models, in which the development of medicinal plants has been identified as one of the key directions.”

According to Mr. Ha Duc Thanh, in 2026 and the following years, Lung Phinh commune will continue to effectively implement three national target programs, focusing on supporting people in developing medicinal plants, temperate fruit trees, large livestock farming, and afforestation. At the same time, the commune will strengthen propaganda, provide technical guidance, encourage production and consumption linkages, gradually form concentrated raw material areas, linked to processing and the development of OCOP products.

It can be affirmed that medicinal plants are opening up the right path, suitable to the natural conditions and market demand, making an important contribution to helping the people of Lung Phinh escape poverty and rise to sustainable wealth. With the support of the Party, the State and the government at all levels, along with the diligence and daring spirit of the people, Lung Phinh is gradually realizing the goal of sustainable poverty reduction and building an increasingly prosperous highland region.
