Data from the General Statistics Office on July 29 showed that in July 2024 alone, international visitors to Vietnam reached 1.15 million. This number increased by 10.9% compared to the same period in 2023.

In the first 7 months of 2024, international visitors to our country reached 9.98 million, an increase of 51% over the same period last year and an increase of 1.9% over the same period in 2019 - the time when the Covid-19 epidemic had not yet occurred.

Accordingly, of the total of nearly 10 million international arrivals to Vietnam in the first 7 months of the year, arrivals by air reached 8.4 million, accounting for 84.2% of the total number of visitors, an increase of 45.1% over the same period in 2023.

Meanwhile, arrivals by road reached 1.4 million, accounting for 14.1% of the total number of international arrivals to our country and increasing by 84.2% over the same period last year. Arrivals by sea only reached 165.5 thousand, accounting for 1.7% and 3 times higher than the same period last year.

In terms of market size, Korea continues to be the largest market sending visitors to Vietnam with nearly 2.6 million arrivals, accounting for 26% of total international arrivals. China ranked second with 2.1 million arrivals, accounting for 21.4% of total international arrivals. Thus, these two countries contributed nearly half of the international arrivals to Vietnam.

Next, Taiwan (China), the United States, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, India, Cambodia, Thailand... are the next largest tourist sending markets of Vietnam.

In terms of growth drivers, most markets recorded stable growth. Asia alone increased by 57% with the main drivers coming from large markets in the Northeast Asia region such as: China (up 190%), South Korea (up 37%), Japan (up 34%)...

Countries in the Southeast Asian region also achieved good growth, notably Indonesia (up 107%), the Philippines (up 58%) and Cambodia (up 15%). Only the Thai market decreased by 14.5%.

Most of the visitors to Vietnam from European countries have had positive growth in the past 7 months, including the main markets such as: UK (up 25%), France (up 33%), Germany (up 27%) and Russia (up 75%). In addition, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Denmark are all potential markets with stable growth.

Although Vietnam is in the low season of international tourism , the number of visitors from European countries in July still increased compared to last month. This is a positive signal from the region with many key markets for Vietnamese tourism. Thereby, it shows the effectiveness of the open visa policy and a series of promotional events of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism over the past time in France, Germany, Italy and Russia.

So, with that peak international tourist season will come in the last months of the year, along with plans to organize a series of promotional activities in many potential markets, opening up expectations that the Vietnamese tourism industry will successfully complete the goal of welcoming 17-18 million international visitors by the end of 2024.

It is expected that in the second half of 2024, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will continue to implement programs to promote and introduce Vietnamese culture and tourism images in China, India, Australia and New Zealand.

In addition, the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism will organize a program to promote Vietnamese tourism and cinema in the United States and participate in a number of international tourism fairs, including the World Travel Market - WTM 2024 taking place this coming November in the UK.
