According to Mirror , MU gave up the chance to welcome Martinez because this goalkeeper is 32 years old and has a transfer fee twice that of Lammens (about 40 million pounds). In addition, the "Red Devils" also have to pay a salary of up to 200,000 pounds per week for the Argentine international.
Sky Sports said MU has not made any offer to Aston Villa, despite previously showing strong interest in Martinez and having reached a personal agreement.
In the context of needing to save to comply with spending regulations, MU's choice of Lammens becomes more reasonable. Salary Leaks said Lammens only receives around 45,000 pounds a week at Old Trafford.
Mirror also said that MU did not include a clause to receive a percentage of profits if Lammens was sold to another club, because the "Red Devils" saw him as a goalkeeper with the ability to develop and could become a mainstay of the team for many years to come.
With Lammens' arrival, United now have four first-team goalkeepers, alongside Andre Onana, Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton. The source said Onana is determined to compete for the number one position, while Bayindir could be loaned out for the rest of the season or find a new destination.
As for Martinez, he will continue to stay at Aston Villa because he still has a contract until 2029.
