Over the past year, Indonesia has grown incredibly strong. The team's strength comes from the presence of "Indo-Vietnamese" players from all over the world combined with the reasonable tactics of coach Shin Tae Yong.
Although highly appreciating Indonesia, Madam Pang still believes in Thailand's strength (Photo: FAT).
Recently, Indonesia made history when they held two very strong teams, Saudi Arabia and Australia, to a draw in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup. The team from the archipelago is considered the biggest rival threatening Thailand's dominance in Southeast Asia.
Madam Pang made a frank comment about Indonesia's strength: "In the AFF Cup, Indonesia or any other team is equally scary. Indonesia is a quality team. That was proven by them in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup.
However, it should be remembered that in recent AFF Cups, Indonesia has never defeated Thailand."
In the history of the AFF Cup, Indonesia has never won the championship. They are the team with the most runner-up positions with 6 times (2000, 2002, 2004, 2010, 2016 and 2020). Of which, 4/6 final matches, Indonesia faced Thailand and lost all.

Madam Pang also talked about the situation of many Thai clubs not releasing players for the national team to participate in the AFF Cup. She said: "Every club wants to play well but the Thai national team cannot be ignored.
I hope the clubs will understand that and sacrifice for the national team. Otherwise, we will not have any players participating in the tournament. The plan has been drawn up. We believe that we will receive cooperation from the clubs participating in the AFC Champions League. However, the teams that do not have a schedule can still ask for a lot of players to join the team. I hope the clubs understand that the AFF Cup is not part of the FIFA Days."
The 2024 AFF Cup will take place from December 8, 2024 to January 5, 2025. Thailand is the champion of the last two tournaments.
