* Philippines, US, Japan hold first trilateral exercise : On May 29, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that it will conduct exercises with its US and Japanese counterparts in the waters off Mariveles, Bataan from June 1-7.
Accordingly, the Philippines will participate in the deployment of four ships including BRP Melchora Aquino (MRRV-9702), BRP Gabriela Silang (OPV-8301), BRP Boracay (FPB-2401) and a 44-meter multi-purpose response vessel. The US and Japanese coast guards will send the USCGC Stratton (WMSL-752) and Akitsushima (PLH-32) respectively.

* South Korea, US, Japan warn of strong response if North Korea launches satellite : On May 29, South Korea's Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs and his US and Japanese counterparts held a phone call and issued a statement "agreeing to respond firmly" after Pyongyang announced its plan to launch a satellite between May 31 and June 11.

* Ukraine shot down 58 Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) : The Ukrainian General Staff said on May 29 that the country's air defense forces shot down 58/59 UAVs in Russia's attack on the night of May 28, mainly targeting the capital Kiev.
The agency stated: "The Russian Federation has carried out another large-scale attack on Ukrainian territory, using Iranian Shahed attack UAVs."

* Ankara criticizes Syrian forces for shelling Turkish fishing boat: The Turkish Foreign Ministry on May 29 condemned Syrian security forces for shelling a Turkish fishing boat in international waters, injuring two people and damaging the vessel.
