Robocon ORC 2025 has officially started at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.

The final round of the 2025 National Robocon ORC competition took place on July 26-27, 2025 at the University of Technology - VNU-HCM (campus 2), gathering nearly 170 teams of students from primary, secondary, high schools and universities across the country. This is the first time the tournament has been held directly at the University of Technology.

Robocon ORC 2025 is a practical playground that creates space for students to practice designing and manufacturing robots, exploring automation technology, programming, and mechatronics. With the theme "Joining hands to build a sustainable world ", Robocon ORC 2025 aims to apply robotic engineering technology to solve problems related to waste collection and production materials. Teams have applied their knowledge and technological skills to design and manufacture robots from small models to industrial scale and program them to perform required tasks. Robots compete in automatic and manual control modes.

In order to encourage the active participation of students in STEM movements in general and Robotics in particular, the competition is organized in both online and offline forms. Teams register to participate in 3 categories: Elementary School (Junior), Middle School & High School (Explorer) and Student (Master).

In its first organization, Robocon ORC 2025 attracted 49 Junior teams, 82 Explorer teams and 44 Master teams nationwide. Here, the teams competed in alliance form through 02 rounds: Scoring round and knockout round. In the scoring round, each team played 3 matches with 3 different alliances, the results selected 32 teams with the highest match scores (including 16 seeded teams and 16 alliance teams), continuing to the knockout round to find the champion.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Thoai Nam - Director of the Center for Computing, University of Technology, Co-Head of the Organizing Committee said that each competition board has a hierarchy of difficulty and creativity. In general, the core task of the teams is to program the robot to move the blocks on the field to the scoring areas. The Junior board for students only requires basic programming. The Explorer board and the Master board have a higher level of difficulty, especially the Master board has an additional requirement to control the robot to shoot accurately, the highest score is if it hits the energy station area.

"The competition organizers want to emphasize that good equipment is not necessarily the deciding factor in the outcome; what matters is the creativity and competitive tactics of the teams," Associate Professor, Dr. Thoai Nam shared.

The total time limit for the Master Division is 180 seconds for the scoring round and 150 seconds for the qualifying round. For the Junior and Explorer Divisions, teams complete the task within 150 seconds for the scoring round and 120 seconds for the qualifying round.

Each team is supported by the Organizing Committee with equipment for building Robots, but the Master teams must prepare their own Robots for the competition. The Junior team competes using Rover robots and other domestic robots. The robots used in the Explorer and Master teams are ORC K2 and ORC K3 respectively.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Ky Phuong Ha - Vice Rector of the school affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology - VNU-HCM clearly defines its role as not only the host of the Robocon ORC 2025 National Finals but also an important connection point in the STEM education ecosystem of the whole country. Through the competition, the school hopes to create a highly practical learning and competition space, where students can apply technological knowledge of design, programming and control to current social problems such as waste treatment and sustainable development.

Competing in a league format not only helps students learn how to cooperate, but also trains them to think flexibly, share responsibilities, and promote collective strengths. "You have to work in teams, come up with ideas, solve problems, overcome technical and tactical challenges, and continuously test and improve your products to achieve higher efficiency. These are all extremely important skills in the 21st century," Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Ky Phuong Ha affirmed.

Not only a Robot tournament, Robocon ORC is also a place to inspire and ignite the passion for Robot engineering in young people, creating opportunities for them to hone their professional and soft skills, thereby becoming potential candidates for the future robotics engineering industry.
