The Malaysian Media and Communications Authority (MCMC) has ordered the suspension of services on the X and xAI platforms from January 11th, and appointed lawyers to prepare for necessary legal proceedings, following serious concerns about the artificial intelligence tools generating fake images with pornographic content.
In its latest statement on January 23, MCMC said: "The temporary access restrictions on the use of the Grok app on the X platform have been lifted effective today." This move comes shortly after Elon Musk's platform confirmed it had implemented additional precautionary and security measures as required by local authorities.

Previously, on January 21, Malaysian officials and representatives of X held a meeting to clarify commitments to comply with Malaysian law. MCMC affirmed that necessary security measures had been implemented and that X's compliance process was currently being closely monitored by the authorities.
The ban was issued amid revelations from researchers that Grok had created approximately 3 million sexually explicit images involving women and children within just a few days. The scale of this pornography sparked global outrage, prompting Malaysia to threaten legal action against both X and xAI if no immediate corrective action was taken.
Although access to Grok has been restored, Malaysian authorities remain cautious in monitoring artificial intelligence tools to prevent similar risks in the future.
