MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz
MITI Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz said that based on data on vulnerabilities and risks, the ministry has developed supply chain maps for eight sectors to fully identify and record businesses in the entire supply chain of each sector.
These eight sectors include pharmaceuticals, medical devices, personal protective equipment (PPE), electrical and electronics, automobiles, livestock, aquaculture and agriculture .
"The idea of SCIMS is to map the country's key industries. In fact, this idea has been invested in research since the COVID-19 pandemic, when we needed to identify areas that must have a strong supply chain. Now, with the challenges of tariffs, we also need to identify the weaknesses of industries, especially key industries," he said at a press conference within the framework of the MBSB Key Enterprises Festival and Supplier Connection Session.
At the event in Kuala Lumpur, Tengku Zafrul announced a RM100 million funding package under the Malaysia Industrial Development Finance Corporation’s Global Market Accelerator Programme, which will support at least 50 SMEs and mid-sized companies to expand into international markets. The programme combines financial and advisory support and complements existing export programmes.
The Minister affirmed that ensuring a safe and resilient supply chain is a core element of economic security. He emphasized that in its role as ASEAN Chair 2025, Malaysia will take the lead in promoting resilience and integration of regional supply chains. According to him, strengthening the domestic supplier ecosystem will help businesses effectively leverage regional partnerships to develop new supply chains, opening up investment opportunities and high-quality jobs.
