Every year, as September 2nd approaches, veterans from Hang Vinh commune (Nam Can district, Ca Mau province) gather at the home of Mr. Ba Hoa (Thai Thanh Hoa, 77 years old, residing in Hamlet 4, Hang Vinh commune) to discuss preparing a meal to offer to President Ho Chi Minh.
This year, after discussion, the members of the Veterans Association of Hang Vinh commune unanimously agreed to invite representatives of the armed forces stationed in the area, commune organizations, and villagers to participate.
The tasks of purchasing ingredients, cooking, and preparing the offering tray were handled jointly by Mr. Ba Hoa's family and everyone else.
Inside Mr. Ba Hoa's house, a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh is placed in the most prominent location. Many images depicting President Ho Chi Minh's revolutionary life are also carefully collected and preserved. His sayings, slogans, and teachings are posted in easily visible places for everyone to contemplate, learn from, and follow.
“I was born and raised during a time of war, so I understand the immense value of peace and independence. For the country to achieve the peace it enjoys today, the entire nation had to endure much loss and suffering. Throughout that process, Uncle Ho was the guiding light. He dedicated his entire life to the people and the country. Therefore, on the anniversary of his death, my family prepares a meal to offer to him,” Mr. Ba Hoa shared.
Mr. Dinh Ngoc Doanh, Chairman of the Veterans Association of Hang Vinh commune, said: “The veterans come here to offer incense to remember and express their deep respect and gratitude to Uncle Ho. This is also an opportunity to propagate, educate , and mobilize the people and the younger generation to contribute to the development of our homeland to become increasingly prosperous and beautiful.”
Similarly, for nearly 40 years, every year Mrs. Tu Tuyet (Truong Thi Tuyet, 74 years old, residing in Xom Lon Ngoai hamlet, Hang Vinh commune) has prepared a meal to offer to Uncle Ho on September 2nd, to express her respect and gratitude for the immense contributions of the great leader of the nation. The meal offered to Uncle Ho is as simple as the meals offered to ancestors in the area, including braised pork with eggs, stewed bitter melon, boiled shrimp and crab...
During the memorial service, Mrs. Tu Tuyet's family invites neighbors to come, first to light incense in remembrance of Uncle Ho, to share stories about him, and to recall revolutionary traditions; then to remind and encourage each other to work hard and strive for a better life.
According to Ms. Phan Thi Trang Phuong, Secretary of the Party Committee of Hang Vinh commune, the veterans in the area prepared a meal to offer to President Ho Chi Minh, similar to the ancestral worship rituals of people in Southern Vietnam. This act reflects the tradition of remembering one's roots and the people's affection for the beloved President Ho Chi Minh. It is also an opportunity for cadres and Party members to reflect on themselves, and continue to study and follow the thoughts, ethics, and style of President Ho Chi Minh.
