(Dan Tri) - At noon on December 15, two US A-10 Thunderbolt II attack aircraft landed at Gia Lam airport ( Hanoi ), ready to participate in the display at the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024.
At around 11:50 a.m. today, the first A-10 aircraft appeared in front of the runway area, preparing to land at Gia Lam airport, Hanoi (Photo: Manh Quan).
Introduced in 1972, the A-10, nicknamed Thunderbolt II, is a twin-engine subsonic attack aircraft designed to provide close air support for ground forces (Photo: Manh Quan). Just a few minutes later, the second A-10 also appeared, circled, and was ready to land at Gia Lam airport (Photo: Manh Quan). A large number of people were present at Xuan Quan dike (Long Bien) in the direction of the landing plane to watch "Thunder God 2" land at Gia Lam airport (Photo: Manh Quan). The A-10 attack aircraft is 16.26m long, 4.47m high, and has a wingspan of 17.53m. The straight and large wing design makes the A-10 Thunderbolt II flexible when flying at an altitude of 300-2,500m (Photo: Manh Quan). The A-10 Thunderbolt II is a strike and air support aircraft manufactured by Fairchild Republic. The A-10 made its first flight in 1975 and entered service with the US Air Force in 1977. The 30 mm GAU-8 Avenger multi-barrel automatic cannon located at the front is a notable highlight of the attack aircraft known as the "tank killer" (Photo: Manh Quan). Thunderbolt II is designed with an empty weight of 11.3 tons; maximum takeoff weight of 22.7 tons. The aircraft is highly maneuverable thanks to the use of 2 extremely powerful General Electric TF34-GE-100 turbofans. Thanks to that, it can carry 4.8 tons of fuel; fly at a speed of 706 km/h; flight ceiling of 13.6 km and combat radius of 463 km (Photo: Manh Quan). The Thunderbolt can carry a variety of missiles, including the AGM Maverick air-to-ground missile or the AIM-9 Sidewinder heat-seeking missile. In addition, the A-10 can carry a variety of conventional munitions, including multi-purpose bombs, cluster bombs, incendiary bombs, laser-guided bombs, and flares (Photo: Manh Quan). Previously, on the afternoon of December 14, these two planes landed at Noi Bai International Airport, Soc Son, Hanoi (Photo: Thanh Dong). Thunderbolt II has a night vision imaging system. The 12.7-38.1mm thick titanium cockpit helps the A-10 withstand 23mm anti-aircraft bullets. At the same time, the aircraft is equipped with many advanced technologies such as computerized targeting equipment; autopilot system; ground collision warning system... (Photo: Thanh Dong).
At the Vietnam International Defense Exhibition 2024, the US partner displayed two A-10 aircraft, one C-130j aircraft, one Stryker armored vehicle, and one M777 gun on an area of 3,000 square meters (Photo: Thanh Dong).
