Want a truly budget-friendly flight? Well, there may soon be a special kind of seat that will satisfy that need. It’s called Skyrider 2.0 – a semi-upright, saddle-style or “coach” seat – that some budget airlines are planning to roll out.
The Skyrider 2.0 is a brand new type of seat that could soon be introduced on budget airlines for short-haul flights. While it means you won't pay as much for your ticket - and the flights may not burn as much fuel - passengers will need to be fit to use it.

According to Euro Weekly News , the Skyrider 2.0 was developed by Italian manufacturer Aviointeriors in 2018. How do these seats actually work? Passengers recline, not lie down, at a 45-degree angle with their weight on their feet, strapped in. These are said to not only increase passenger capacity on flights by up to 20 percent, but also make planes much lighter (and therefore burn less fuel) as they weigh about half as much as conventional seats.
While the main benefit of these seats is that they would be offered at super cheap prices, it would also theoretically mean that planes could spend more time in the sky due to less cleaning.
These seats could be introduced as early as 2026 on flights under two hours long, according to the report.

While no airlines have confirmed plans to invest in the new seats on their planes, a number of Spanish and Eastern European low-cost carriers have expressed interest in the 'coach' style. Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary has said he wants to have 10 rows of 'coach' seats on his planes, and that they could be available for as little as £1.
