The Guardian reports that an Irish court has sentenced McGregor after a woman accused him of sexual assault in a Dublin hotel bathroom in 2018. The "Madman" of the UFC world avoided criminal charges and also escaped the prospect of paying a larger sum in compensation.
Earlier, in early 2021, the plaintiff's lawyer filed a lawsuit seeking millions of dollars in compensation. James Lawrence, a friend of the Irish MMA fighter, was also accused by the woman. However, after six hours of deliberation, the jury acquitted Lawrence and ordered McGregor to pay the victim 248,000 euros in compensation.
McGregor admitted to having a relationship with the woman, and claimed their late-night encounter was "consensual," although doctors noted injuries on the victim's body after the incident.
McGregor is a controversial fighter in the UFC, known for his outrageous statements and actions. He was ranked by Forbes as the world's highest-earning athlete in 2021, with $180 million . The 35-year-old star hasn't competed since July 2021, when he suffered an ankle injury and subsequently lost to Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
