Northern Vietnam experiences peak heat for two consecutive days.

VietNamNetVietNamNet01/06/2023

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting has just issued its latest bulletin announcing that intense heat continues in the North and Central regions of Vietnam.

Yesterday (May 31st), the Northern region and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen experienced hot weather with maximum temperatures of 35-38 degrees Celsius, exceeding 40 degrees Celsius in many places. Particularly in Son La, some areas such as Muong La reached 43.3 degrees, Song Ma 42 degrees, and Yen Chau 40.5 degrees; in addition, Bac Me (Ha Giang) also reached 42 degrees, Bao Lac ( Cao Bang ) 41.7 degrees, and Tuong Duong (Nghe An) 40.4 degrees...

Over the next two days, hot weather and rising temperatures are expected in these areas. Specifically, today (June 1st), Northern Vietnam and the region from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien Hue will experience hot and intensely hot weather, with some areas experiencing exceptionally intense heat. The highest temperatures will reach 35-38 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 39 degrees Celsius; the lowest relative humidity will be 40-60%.

From June 2-3, temperatures in the area will reach a peak of 36-39 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 40 degrees Celsius.

In the area from Da Nang to Phu Yen, the heat has eased somewhat, but temperatures are still at 35-37 degrees Celsius, with some places exceeding 37 degrees.

Meteorological experts note that the temperature forecast in heatwave reports and the actual perceived temperature outdoors can differ by 2-4 degrees, or even more, depending on the surface conditions such as concrete or asphalt.

Although this heatwave didn't affect as many areas as the previous one, it lasted for a whole week, causing a stuffy, uncomfortable feeling and significantly impacting people's daily lives.

It wasn't until May 4th that the heatwave in Northern Vietnam and the area from Thanh Hoa to Phu Yen began to subside.

Experts predict that temperatures in the area will only drop by about 1-2 degrees, still remaining hot, but the appearance of thunderstorms will make the weather milder.

Since the beginning of the year, Northern and Central Vietnam have experienced two periods of extreme heat. The first, following the April 30th - May 1st holiday, recorded a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius in Hoi Xuan (Quan Hoa district, Thanh Hoa province). The recent heatwave lasted for several days (approximately from May 16th to 23rd) with temperatures consistently reaching nearly 40 degrees Celsius, and in many places 41-42 degrees Celsius.

According to meteorological experts, from June to August, hot weather will continue in the North and Central regions of Vietnam, with more days than the multi-year average and more intense than the same period last year.

In particular, each heatwave typically lasts 5-7 days; the highest temperatures in the North are around 37-38 degrees Celsius; in the Central region 37-39 degrees Celsius, with some areas even higher, reaching 40-42 degrees Celsius.

Experts note that due to the concentrated heatwave in the North and Central regions, there is a risk of fires and explosions in residential and production areas due to increased electricity demand, and a high risk of forest fires. Furthermore, nationwide, precautions should be taken against dangerous weather phenomena such as thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, and hailstorms, which could significantly impact production and daily life.
