The patient reported experiencing abdominal pain in the middle of the night, and although they took medication the next morning, the pain did not subside. The patient then visited a private clinic and was advised to be admitted to Thong Nhat Dong Nai General Hospital for treatment.
Through examination, combined with ultrasound and CT scans of the abdomen, doctors at Thong Nhat General Hospital in Dong Nai discovered a wire-shaped foreign object in the abdominal cavity; they also found a large amount of abdominal fluid, diagnosing infection and peritonitis due to perforation of a hollow organ.
The patient was scheduled for emergency surgery. During the operation, doctors discovered and removed an eel, approximately 50 cm long and 3 cm in diameter, from the patient's abdomen.
Additionally, doctors discovered a hole in the patient's rectum, suspected to be the location where the eel pierced the wall to enter the abdomen.
The doctors cleaned the abdominal area and sutured the rectal perforation for the patient.
The patient was then transferred to the Intensive Care and Toxicology Unit for further specialized treatment.
