Hanoi business delegation attends the largest trade fair in Northern Europe.
The year 2024 marks a new milestone in the relationship between Vietnam and Sweden, marking 55 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations, traditional friendship, and equal, mutually beneficial cooperation (1969-2024). Over the past half-century, the two countries have actively built, nurtured, and developed their bilateral relationship, making it increasingly sustainable, profound, and achieving proud accomplishments in many fields. In 2024, numerous diplomatic activities will be organized to further highlight the strong bond between the two sides.
Speaking with a reporter from the Industry and Trade Newspaper, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Thuy – Head of the Vietnamese Trade Office in Sweden, also responsible for the Nordic region – said that in order to support businesses and units in Hanoi in grasping global market trends, expanding export markets, and having the opportunity to promote handicrafts, traditional village products, and OCOP products of Hanoi – Vietnam to European and global markets, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, in coordination with the Trade Office and the Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden, organized a trade promotion delegation to participate in the Formex Sweden Handicraft Fair 2024.

The Formex Sweden Handicrafts Fair 2024, held from August 27-29, 2024, is considered the largest annual festival in Northern Europe, featuring numerous national pavilions from the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, France, Spain, Germany, Colombia, Japan, Qatar, and more. The fair brings together domestic and international buyers, distributors, designers, manufacturers, and media from across the interior design, handicraft, and gift industries.
With the participation of numerous artisans, manufacturers, and distributors from countries around the world, and having been established and developed for over 64 years and held twice a year, the Formex Sweden Fair is a traditional, prestigious event held annually in Europe, attracting more than 3,000 businesses from over 100 countries, with over 1 million visitors engaging in direct transactions and shopping.
The fair also reached approximately 37,300 people who learned about the Formex Fair via Instagram and 61,000 people through the fair's newsletter, creating opportunities for networking, product and goods introduction, and franchise cooperation for businesses and organizations in Hanoi to the European market and other countries around the world.
The fair also provides information on trends, inspiration, and knowledge in the form of exhibitions and presentations. The Formex Sweden fair is considered a gateway for Vietnamese businesses to market their products, increase exports, and participate in the distribution chain to European and other markets. This is considered an unmissable opportunity to trade and promote in order to increase exports to this market.
Great opportunity for Hanoi products.
As part of the program, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized the "Hanoi – Vietnam" booth at the Formex Sweden Handicraft Fair 2024 from August 27th to August 29th, 2024.
This is the main activity of the event, aimed at supporting Hanoi businesses in displaying and introducing goods and services, and conducting trade at the Fair; increasing the presence of brands, handicrafts, village products, gift products, and OCOP products from Hanoi and Vietnam in Sweden, Europe, and among international visitors attending the Fair. Through this, it promotes export opportunities for Hanoi's handicrafts, village products, gift products, and OCOP products to distribution channels in Sweden, Northern Europe, and Europe.
Spanning 90 square meters, the Hanoi pavilion, located within the Vietnam pavilion, brings together 10 businesses producing strong, export-potential, and competitive products for the Swedish, Nordic, and European markets. These include: decorative and household ceramics; baskets, rugs, decorative items, and kitchenware such as trays, bowls, and dinnerware sets; handmade quilted blankets, decorative pillows, handbags, wallets, fabric coasters, fabric placemats, and fabric accessories such as laptop covers, phone cases, glasses cases, and Christmas decorations; trays, baskets, lampshades, and mirrors made from rattan, bamboo, sedge, and water hyacinth; trays, boxes, and lamp bases; and silk products such as silk face towels, silk bath towels, scarves, raw silk fabrics, silk curtains, and silk bedding.

On August 27, 2024, a delegation of leaders from the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Mr. Le Ba Ngoc – Secretary General and Vice President of the Vietnam Handicraft Association, along with Ambassador Tran Van Tuan – Vietnamese Embassy in Sweden; Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoang Thuy – Commercial Counselor, Vietnam Trade Office in Sweden (also accredited to Denmark, Iceland, Norway, and Latvia); Professor Prof. Claus – Lund University; Ms. Mimmi Bergström, Swedish International Council for Industry; Mr. Rolf Bergman, former Swedish Ambassador to Vietnam… together with trade representatives and officials from Vietnamese diplomatic missions in Sweden, cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Hanoi – Vietnam pavilion.
The Hanoi pavilion at the Formex Sweden Handicraft Fair was specially designed with the theme: Hanoi Traditional Craft Villages – Traditional Values – Modern Design, deeply rooted in the culture of Thang Long – Dong Do – Hanoi – Vietnam. In particular, the Hanoi pavilion clearly showcased the national character of Vietnam, making it an indispensable destination for international visitors.
Besides participating in booths at the Fair, businesses and organizations from Hanoi can also attend forums, conferences, and seminars on various topics organized by the Formex Sweden Handicraft Fair 2024 Organizing Committee. This allows them to access professional knowledge on international branding, product promotion methods, and current trends in handicraft and gift design worldwide. Through these events, they can connect with exhibitors and share information on the Organizing Committee's social media platforms.
Within the framework of the Formex Sweden Handicraft Fair 2024, on August 27, 2024, the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development organized a business networking workshop between Hanoi businesses and distribution system businesses from Europe, Northern Europe, and Sweden.
