On October 25, VNPT inaugurated the Data Center (IDC) at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park. Mr. Huynh Quang Liem, General Director of VNPT, said that along with IDC Hoa Lac, VNPT currently owns 8 data centers present in major provinces and cities including Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City. These centers all meet strict domestic and international standards. Of which, IDC Hoa Lac is the largest and most modern in Vietnam, capable of providing the most advanced data services in Vietnam, ready to meet the "tailor-made" requirements of all domestic and international customer segments.
In the coming time, VNPT is expected to continue to seek cooperation opportunities with partners and investors to build new data centers of regional and world scale, using green and sustainable technology. This affirms VNPT's role in accompanying the Government and businesses to realize the aspiration of national digital transformation, towards the goal of becoming a digital hub of the region.
Built on a separate plot of land in the center of Hoa Lac High-Tech Park, VNPT IDC Hoa Lac has a total usable area of up to 23,000 m2 of floor space, with a scale of up to 2,000 racks - the largest in Vietnam today. IDC Hoa Lac has achieved Uptime Tier III certification for design, construction and installation and will soon be certified for operation.
The equipment in IDC is provided by famous brands from G7 countries such as: Cumin, Hitachi, Siemens... In particular, IDC center has the ability to connect to super-fast network, an average of 2Gbps/rack for domestic connection and 0.5Gbps/rack for international network connection, thanks to the advantage of being the leading telecommunications network in Vietnam of VNPT.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung said that data infrastructure is the most important part of digital infrastructure. Telecommunication networks have been at the forefront of telecommunication infrastructure, now they must be at the forefront of data infrastructure. Investing in data centers is a new type of investment for telecommunication networks. Without investing in this, telecommunication networks will not have new growth space. Without investing in this, telecommunication networks will be replaced.
“Every three years, the world’s data doubles. Vietnam’s data increases faster. Vietnam currently has 39 small and medium-sized data centers, equivalent to the 15 data centers of VNPT in Hoa Lac that opened today. Thus, we must inaugurate at least five centers like this each year to basically meet Vietnam’s data needs,” said Minister Nguyen Manh Hung.
According to the head of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Vietnam still does not have a large data center. VNPT's data center in Hoa Lac has a capacity of 2,000 racks, which is medium-sized. A large center has at least 5,000 racks. Network operators still do not have a large enough vision for data.
Data is the most important resource of the digital economy. The wealth of a country in the future will be measured by data. Big data and big data processing will be the biggest industry. VNPT as well as other telecommunications networks in Vietnam must have the right vision of a country's data infrastructure.
“Today, we are here to witness the launch of VNPT IDC Hoa Lac, witnessing the realization of VNPT's commitment to building a modern, international-standard Vietnamese digital infrastructure... On behalf of the Ministry of Information and Communications, I congratulate VNPT, and request VNPT to continue building large data centers of international standards in the coming time, providing digital infrastructure that meets the needs of the digital government, digital economy and digital society in our country, so that Vietnamese businesses no longer have to worry about finding a place to store and process data outside of Vietnam, as well as attract customers around the world," said the Minister.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Anh, Chairman of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises, said that the opening of IDC Hoa Lac is a testament to VNPT's aspiration to accompany the Government in building a modern, internationally-standard digital infrastructure, so that Vietnamese data is stored and processed in Vietnam according to the direction of the Government and the Ministry of Information and Communications. By 2025, 100% of government agencies and 70% of enterprises will use domestic cloud computing. Currently, many Vietnamese enterprises are using foreign cloud computing infrastructure and switching to using Vietnamese infrastructure. VNPT's role is very important in making Vietnam a digital nation and this is the group's mission.
Also at this ceremony, Mr. To Dung Thai, Chairman of VNPT said that the opening of the IDC Center today is a process of striving, from the burning desire to make VNPT become the leading IDC provider in Vietnam and the region. To realize the mission and vision of becoming a leading service provider, making greater contributions to the national digital transformation, VNPT has determined that taking internal resources, including the tradition of overcoming difficulties, rising up, and investing in human resources is fundamental, long-term, strategic, and decisive; taking external resources such as modern technology and advanced management is important and breakthrough.
