On the occasion of the Lunar New Year At Ty, many localities in Nam Dan district ( Nghe An ) organize traditional wrestling tournaments. The wrestling tournament of Nghia Thai commune has been restored and maintained for the past 20 years, taking place from the 3rd day of Tet to the 9th day of January, attracting thousands of people to watch (Photo: An Nam).
In the past 2 years, Nghia Thai commune wrestling arena has attracted the participation of many women, creating a special highlight compared to wrestling tournaments of other localities in the district.
Most of the women "entered the ring" for fun, and many had never practiced or participated in wrestling matches before.
The young female wrestler stuck to the floor to avoid her opponent's "back flip", however, with her lighter body, after a while of struggling, she had to accept defeat.
Female wrestler Nguyen Thi Phu (black shirt, black pants) entered the wrestling ring for the first time. With techniques she "learned" from watching male wrestlers compete before and good physical condition, Ms. Phu quickly knocked down her opponent, winning convincingly.
Although it was her first time entering the ring, Ms. Phu easily won 3 consecutive matches. In the 4th match, Ms. Phu met her challenger Dinh Thi Uyen (white shirt). The two female "wrestlers" carefully tested each other before approaching their opponent.
The two wrestlers locked arms with each other. The match between the two women fell into a fierce tug of war amid the cheers of a large audience in the stadium.
With a strong jerk of her hand, female "wrestler" Dinh Thi Uyen quickly changed the situation, gained the upper hand and knocked out her opponent.
Few people know that this woman had just given birth 3 months ago and left her baby with her grandmother at home to take care of her so she could compete.
"Seeing everyone's competition was so exciting, I joined for fun. My husband also really supported his wife's competition," Ms. Uyen shared.
After two convincing wins, Ms. Uyen did not have to compete in the next match because there was no challenger.
Ms. Tran Thi Tham, a cultural official of Nghia Thai commune, shared: "In addition to promoting the spirit of martial arts and attracting the participation of a large number of people, through the early spring wrestling tournament, we also select "seeds" to nurture and send to participate in the wrestling tournament within the framework of the Mai Hac De King festival, which takes place on the full moon of January every year.
In particular, the traditional wrestling competition of the commune has had the participation of women, although not many, but it has created its own color and is more attractive, attracting many people from neighboring communes to watch and cheer.
