At around 9:00 p.m. on July 26, a man was riding a motorbike on Truong Chinh Street towards Nga Tu So, Dong Da District (old). When he was approaching the Ton That Tung - Truong Chinh intersection, the front wheel suddenly fell into a hole.
When the car was pulled up, the road surface revealed a deep hole about 1m in diameter and 1m deep, shaped like a frog’s jaw, with no water. Immediately after, the authorities arrived at the scene, blocked off the sinkhole and removed the vehicle from the scene.
On the morning of July 27, the leader of Hanoi Traffic Construction Joint Stock Company said: “The incident happened suddenly. A car in front was still able to pass normally, but when the car behind it came, the road suddenly collapsed. The driver could not lift the car up and it gradually sank, creating a deep hole.
Immediately after receiving the news, the management unit also went to the scene, digging the road to find the cause. The initial preliminary results determined that it was due to a leak in the D100 clean water supply pipe. According to the water supply unit, they had known about this for a few days but could not find the location," said this leader.
"Because the phenomenon that just happened was discovered immediately. If the road collapsed before and we did not detect it, causing the car to fall, then the responsibility lies with the road management unit," this leader informed.
It is known that today, the water supply unit will handle the leak.
Previously, after particularly heavy rains, many sinkholes appeared in Hanoi, posing a danger to road users. For example, in July 2022, a sinkhole about one meter deep appeared at the intersection of Nguyen Huu Tho - Nguyen Phan Chanh.
