While tourism promotion was previously primarily conducted through publications, promotional programs, or traditional media, social media has now opened up an effective and highly interactive channel. With just a smartphone, personal camera, or drone, young people can capture vivid moments of their hometowns, from natural landscapes and cuisine to the daily lives of the people, and share them with tens of thousands of followers.
Notably, content created by young people often reflects real-life experiences and personal perspectives. Without being overly technical or staged, many videos focus on journeys of discovery, traditional food, or everyday stories of local people. This authenticity and simplicity create a unique appeal, allowing viewers to easily empathize and motivate them to choose destinations to experience.
As one of the young people actively sharing images of her hometown, Bui Gia Han, residing in Rach Gia ward, currently owns a TikTok channel with nearly 30,000 followers. Through short videos showcasing the beautiful scenery, tourist attractions, and culinary experiences in An Giang, Gia Han has attracted the attention of many viewers. Gia Han shared: “When I saw that many friends from other provinces didn't know about the unique beauty of An Giang, I decided to make short videos to introduce it. Initially, I just did it for fun, but unexpectedly received many views and comments. Many people asked more about locations, transportation, accommodation, and the best time to visit. That made me very happy and gave me more motivation to continue.”
Many other young people are also contributing to promoting the image of local tourism in their own ways. Some document their journeys exploring nature, others introduce local specialties, and still others tell stories about culture, history, and daily life. Despite choosing different methods of expression, their common goal is to bring the image of An Giang closer to tourists.
A prominent current trend is the production of short videos ranging from a few dozen seconds to about 3 minutes in length. With this format, content creators can quickly introduce a destination, dish, or tourist activity through vivid visuals combined with engaging sound, catering to the fast-paced information consumption habits of social media users.
Nguyen Hoai Ai Duy, a resident of Vinh Thuan commune, said: “Before each trip, I usually determine the content theme and plan the filming specifically. During the journey, I try to capture many moments and diverse perspectives. At the same time, I share practical information such as costs and transportation so that viewers can easily refer to them. After the trip, the materials are selected and edited into short, lively, and informative videos.” According to Ai Duy, creating travel content is not simply about capturing beautiful images, but also about sharing practical experiences, helping viewers gain more information before choosing a destination.
Besides showcasing the landscapes, many young people also focus on exploring the cultural and historical values of the locality. Traditional festivals, craft villages, historical relics, and the distinctive lifestyles of people in the riverine region are vividly recreated through creative perspectives. As a result, An Giang is presented not only as an attractive tourist destination but also as a land rich in cultural identity.
Mr. Tran Van Tam, Deputy Director of Vietravel An Giang, commented: "The appeal of content created by young people lies in its relatable nature and real-life experiences. Viewers can clearly feel the atmosphere, scenery, and activities at the destination through the perspective of the experiencer."
