Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Duong Noi, Ha Dong had a red ant crawling on her face at night. However, she simply thought that she was not stung, so she woke up in the morning, washed her face as usual and went to work.

Medical experts warn that due to incorrect handling of ant bites, many people have suffered serious consequences.

When she felt a burning sensation on her face, she unconsciously raised her hand to scratch. In the evening, she felt unbearable pain and when she looked in the mirror, she discovered that her face was red with white spots.

According to specialist doctor 2 Nguyen Minh Thu, Deputy Head of the Examination Department, Central Dermatology Hospital, recently, the Examination Department has received many cases of contact dermatitis caused by insects, including ants. There are dozens of cases a day.

Patients who come to the clinic often have skin lesions that are burning, red, and in some cases ulcerated and infected. Most of the patients who come to the clinic have undergone self-treatment, from folk remedies to topical medications, but have not improved. Only when the lesions are severe and widespread do they go to the hospital.

Many people do not detect when the ants attack, and wake up one night to see red. But there are also people who, when they detect ants on their skin, hit them hard, even rub them to death, causing the toxins to be released into the skin, causing widespread and deep damage.

Some cases occur in sensitive areas such as the eyes, armpits, genitals, groin, etc., causing uncomfortable symptoms and affecting the patient's daily life.

In some cases, pederin gets into the eyelids, causing swelling, conjunctivitis, increased risk of corneal damage, and even temporary loss of vision if pederin gets into the eyes when rubbed. The skin in the armpits, groin, and thighs is thinner, softer, and more sensitive, and is also more susceptible to serious damage.

These areas tend to rub together during activity, so the lesions tend to spread more widely than other areas, limiting movement. Due to their specific location, these areas are moist and take longer to heal than exposed skin areas.

According to doctors, the body of the three-cavity ant contains the toxin Pederin (C24H43O9N), which is 12-15 times more toxic than cobra venom, but because the amount of contact is small and only on the skin, it is not enough to kill people like snake venom, but it will cause skin damage and burning.

When exposed to the poison of the three-cavity ant, damage often occurs on exposed skin areas such as the face and hands. The lesions form long streaks or clusters. Initially, they are red rashes that swell into pustules.

Normally, ants do not secrete toxins unless crushed or rubbed. Therefore, when you find ants clinging to your skin, instead of crushing the ants (which can cause skin burns), blow on them to make them fly away and then use a tissue to handle the ants.

This expert also warned that the three-compartment ants are very small, if not careful, they can stick to clothes, blankets, towels and when in contact with the skin, the venom of the three-compartment ants can cause skin damage. Therefore, after drying clothes, you need to shake them vigorously, before putting on clothes, you also have to shake clothes vigorously, shake towels vigorously...

Before going to bed, check your bedding and put down curtains to prevent insects from entering. You should limit the amount of lights in the house, only turn on the balcony lights. If you turn on the lights in the house, you should close the doors tightly.

Faced with the risk of ant attacks, doctors recommend that as soon as you discover an area of red, swollen skin with pustules suspected to be caused by ants, you should quickly wash it with clean water or saline or a product that does not have strong bleaching properties to remove the toxins of ants from the skin.

Try to wash gently so as not to scratch or break the wound. This washing is to neutralize or reduce the allergic factors, skin irritation.

If you wash the toxins off immediately, you will reduce the risk of skin damage. However, many people, when they discover red, sore, or damaged skin, buy medicine to apply without washing it off.

Next, you can apply a lotion to soothe the skin. After that, you should see a doctor to assess whether you need to apply additional specialized medications such as topical corticosteroids, oral antihistamines, or oral antibiotics when there are signs of secondary infection as prescribed by your doctor.

Some diseases such as shingles, herpes simplex virus infection (HSV) have skin symptoms that can be easily confused with dermatitis caused by ants.

Patients should not self-diagnose or self-treat with other people's prescriptions, or use tips or folk remedies such as applying leaves or drawing symbols, because not treating the cause properly increases the risk of the disease progressing to a more serious stage.
