A college in Ho Chi Minh City enrolls students in semiconductor majors.

(NLDO) - Catching the "wave" of semiconductor microchips, Cao Thang Technical College (District 1) has opened a "hot" major in the new school year.

On the morning of January 1, 2025, Cao Thang Technical College announced enrollment for the 2025-2026 school year.

Dr. Le Dinh Kha, Principal of Cao Thang Technical College, said that the school plans to enroll 4,500 students for 18 majors/occupations. Notably, this year, the school will enroll students in a "hot" major: semiconductor and microchip engineering technology.

The electronics and telecommunications engineering industry has two majors: electronics and telecommunications and computer networks; semiconductor and microchip engineering technology.

According to Dr. Kha, semiconductor companies are investing in "huge" projects in the Southern region such as Intel, Onsemi, Samsung Advanced Optics, etc. In addition, domestic corporations and companies such as Viettel,FPT , VNChip, etc. are also joining this market. This shows that the semiconductor market is in need of a lot of labor.

"Currently, most schools that offer training in semiconductor microcircuits are concentrated at the university level. It is very necessary for Cao Thang Technical College to have a new related major, creating more learning opportunities for students. At the same time, it meets the demand for highly skilled human resources for the city in particular and the Southern region in general" - Dr. Kha emphasized.

Among the 18 majors/occupations, the school has 4 majors that meet ABET standards: electrical and electronic engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology, automotive engineering technology, and thermal engineering technology. The mechatronic engineering technology major meets KOSEN standards (Japan).

In addition, in the 2025-2026 school year, the school will apply a new admission combination of Math (multiplied by a coefficient of 2) and 2 subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Literature, Foreign Language, Information Technology, Technology).

Admission methods include: high school transcripts (3 semesters), direct admission, results of the 2025 national high school graduation exam, results of the 2025 Competency Assessment exam of Ho Chi Minh City National University
